The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No one hurt

Made Sep 5, 2024, sent to the company Sep 25, 2024, published by CPSC Oct 9, 2024

The product, in the report: BLACK+DECKER 16” Stand Fan with Pedestal Base, Height Adjustable Pedestal Fan with Remote and Touch Control Panel, Free Standing Fan with 90-Degree Oscillating and 3-Speed Settings, White

Black and Decker floor stand fan plastic housing became brittle and broke apart when I attempted to lift it by the handle. It basically shattered with small sharp bits of plastic going everywhere. Had the fan been on, the sharp pieces could have flown about potentially causing serious injury. The fan is only two years old. The handle is gone, part of the backing is gone, a quarter of the frame fell off, the metal face plate fell off, and if I attempt to move it, more plastic pieces break off. This was sold by Amazon and they refuse to take action or remove the item. I am waiting to hear back from Black and Decker about it, but I presume the warranty period is two years and I’m five months past the purchase date. I assume they will do nothing. I suggested to them that the item no longer be sold. This may require government intervention.
