Re: Safety Hazard, Best 48” Stove Vent P/N: Model K260A, K260A, Rev-G
Dear U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission
The attached memo to [REDACTED] Broan-Nutone describes how I seriously lacerated two of my fingers (total of 19 stitches) on an unprotected, raw stainless steel sheet metal edge inside my Best 48” stove hood (P/N referenced above). This occurred in mid-July 2013 when I was trying to replace one of the four the removable vent baffles after cleaning, and it was catching on some hidden obstacle in the vent assembly (...turned out to be dangling 120V power cord assembly). The unit was purchased from Ferguson Enterprises on 28-Dec-2013 (invoice Nr.2736968), and installed on February 5, 2014 by Greg Georguson Summit, Inc, [REDACTED] of Lodi CA.
Also, be aware that when trying to replace on of the (four) halogen lights, the light socket installed in the hood broke free as I tried to “push and twist’’ a new light bulb into place, potentially exposing me to yet another raw stainless steel sheet mental edge, as well as the now exposed, internal120V AC electrical circuits. [REDACTED] sent me a replacement light socket that I self installed. The old one is still trapped somewhere inside the vent unit. This latter event occurred in mid October, 2014.
I believe there is a simple fix to the exposed, raw sheet metal edge on which I lacerated my fingers: simply roll over this sheet metal edge by ~6mm prior to assembly. I recommend that this unit be recalled until the above issues are addressed and fixed.
Sincerely yours, [REDACTED]
