The product, in the report: Bertazzoni Range hood model KCH30XVPRO 30 inch stainless steel chimney hood, though this switch is used in other models as well.
While operating the Bertazzoni KCH30XVPRO range hood on its maximum setting (High), an electrical malfunction occurred within the internal control switch mechanism. The appliance experienced sustained electrical arcing, generating extreme, localized heat. This resulted in the catastrophic melting and thermal degradation of the plastic switch.
The failure occurred during normal residential operation under standard conditions. The failure mode indicates either an inadequate electrical component rating for the motors current draw, or a structural breakdown of the internal switch contacts, leading to high-resistance arcing.
Range hoods are installed directly over active cooking surfaces and are inherently exposed to flammable cooking grease and oils. An internal electrical failure that creates an open arc and melts plastic components introduces a direct ignition source into a high-grease environment, posing a critical kitchen fire and smoke inhalation hazard.
