The product, in the report: Bathroom Ventilation Fan
On August 11, 2012 and again on January 26, 2013 the City of Carrollton Fire Department responded to [REDACTED] to reported residential fires. On both of these responses the bathroom exhaust fans had overheated or had a fire inside their plastic enclosures. The plastic enclosures themselves were melted causing considerable smoke inside the apartment buildings. On January 30, 2013 I made an investigative visit to the apartment complex and with the owners permission checked several of the apartments to determine fan manufacturer, model, and condition. The majority of the fans that I checked, which was only a small sample of the 50 or so apartments, showed signs of poor maintenance with heavy dirt and dust accumulations inside the fan housings. The fans involved in the fire incidents were not recovered at the time of the incident and it is not possible to determine if poor maintenance could have been an issue with these fans.
