The reports, as CPSC published them

Plugged the pest repellant fan into the port using the supplied cord, with the batteries in the battery compartment on our brand new kitchen counter. Thirty minutes later, returned to the kitchen to find the battery leaking into the brand new counter top, ruining the kitchen counter.

Ambiano Repellent Fan upc 4069365620120 Fan for repelling flies. Runs off two included AA cells or USB cable. If AA cells are installed and USB cable is plugged in to power source, the AA cells emit a large quantity of clear liquid and became so hot it was very difficult to remove them. Fortunately I was 2 feet away and was able to unplug before serious event could occur. There is no warning on the packaging that should not use USB while AA are installed. No “owner manual” in the packaging. https://www.aldi.us/store/aldi/products/109909391-ambiano-bug-repellant-fan-faux-wood-1-each

The product, in the report: Ambiano bug repellent fan purchased from Aldi. Light wood color with two long paper blades.

I am reporting a potential safety issue involving the Ambiano Bug Repellent Fan sold by Aldi. The fan was connected using the included USB cable while AA alkaline batteries remained installed. The device overheated and caused significant melting/burn damage to upholstered furniture. The instructions warn not to recharge non-rechargeable batteries but do not clearly state that batteries must be removed before USB use. The batteries overheated, leaked, and melted. I am concerned this presents a fire hazard.

The product, in the report: Ambiano Bug Repellant Fan - Faux wood color - 3V - 2 “AA” batteries included - 1 USB cable

I purchased an Ambiano bug repellant fan from Aldi on 5/14/2026. I inserted the 2 AA batteries that were included with it. I also plugged it in to charge it with the cord it came with, as the batteries were the back up to the charge. The directions said you were able to charge it with batteries inside the fan, and if you did, the battery charge would be disabled. I came back to unplug the fan a little while later only to find that the batteries were leaking out of the battery compartment! So much so that the leaking started to remove the ink on the batteries itself! Not only that, but the batteries also leaked out of the compartment onto my wood dining room table, leaving a big dark spot and removing the surface layer of the wood, in turn leaving a spot I can’t fix or repair without considerable cost. This is not safe for people to come in contact with battery chemicals that leak and it will ruin whatever surface it touches.
