No one hurt Made May 26, 2019, sent to the company Jun 20, 2019, published by CPSC Jul 8, 2019
The product, in the report: Tiltable floor/table three speed electric portable plastic circulator fan with an easily removable fan blade guard for cleaning.
I purchased an Aerospeed Air Circulator 20 inch portable tilt fan model AC100 from Dollar General [REDACTED], Pa. 17019-1212 in 2018 for the price of $40. I was using it in my residence [REDACTED] on May 26, 2019 to cool my third floor apartment. I had the fan on a table top in front of the window to draw air in when a slight breeze blew the fan over causing the fan blade guard to easily pop off and the rotating fan blade to come in contact with the table top which sheared off a blade causing to fly into the room. The fan is poorly designed and constructed out of top heavy bottom light weight shoddy plastic which causes the fan to be unstable and fall over which cause the fan to break and cause injury or fall into furniture over heat and cause a fire and the blade guard alone popping off easily could expose children’s fingers to the rotating fan blade resulting in a serious injury.

No one hurt Made Nov 14, 2012, sent to the company Jan 30, 2013, published by CPSC Feb 13, 2013
The product, in the report: Box Fan
Caller purchased box fan on May 17th, 2012 around 5PM, brought it home, unplugged a larger fan she had been using for months and moved it to the living room then plugged new, smaller fan in where the old one had been used in her bedroom. Caller states that the same outlet was used for both fans. The only other electrical item used in the room was her alarm clock.
Caller had been ill for sometime prior to this date and had gotten up during the night, laid down on the sofa and fell asleep. The very next morning sometime near 4:26 AM the smoke alarm woke the caller. She got up, went to her bedroom following a light which turned out to be a fire coming out of the front of the fan. She estimates the flames at 8 or 9 inches. All power in her mobile home then stopped working.
She looked for a fire extinguisher, found none, so gathered her pets and ran to a neighbor asking them to call for emergency assistance. One of her cats ran back into the 70ft mobile home but never made it back out. Caller estimates complete destruction of her home within 30 minutes.
Electricians examined the new box fan and determined that the motor in the new fan had seized, stopped turning and burned the motor up causing the fire. Caller is asking that this fan be recalled, The lawyer has the fan motor that caught fire and believed to have been the cause of her home being destroyed. Her lawyer contacted the manufacturer 10/05/2012, was informed that they were coming to the lawyers office to examine the fan motor, photos etc., however, they provided no date, have not called again or come to the lawyers office.
Reviews from other consumers pulled from the internet shows this is not an isolated incident. They state the problems with the Aerospeed BX100 is smoking, melting, motor noise and fire, purchased between February 2012 and September 2012.
