The product, in the report: Scan 60 Woodstove. Manufactured by Scan; a subsidiary of Jotul.
Hi Folks,
Please see page 22, in this pdf: http://www.inglenookenergy.com/Stoves/Wood_Freestanding/Scan/pdf/Scan_60-61_Manual.pdf
I have a Scan 60 woodstove that is about 2.5 years old. Made by Scan, a subsidiary of Jotul. The top baffle can come down and block the flow of gasses out the flue when the side pieces crack. This has happened to me twice. I replaced the two side panels once already. It has now happened again. This situation is potentially hazardous. The Skamol, which is vermiculite (like styrofoam) was never designed to support a lot of weight. Expansion and contraction, etc. over time seem to make the supporting pieces crack (#6 & 8).
I sustained minor burns the first time it happened. I was able to prop up the “damper” (#10) with two small pieces of brick placed on top of (#9) for a temporary fix. Both times that this has happened, I had a fire going...
Pieces 6, 8, 10, and 11 are the pieces I’m referring to. 6 & 8 have cracked right where the pin (#11) goes in. When this happens, #10 looses it’s rear support and falls onto the shelf (#9), blocking flue gases.
