How badly anyone was hurt

As each report says it, in short words; CPSC’s own words are under each.

The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No one hurt

Made Nov 16, 2017, sent to the company Dec 14, 2017, published by CPSC Dec 29, 2017

The product, in the report: JOTUL F500 wood burning stove

    JOTUL F500 Wood Burning Stove

There are 2 hinges on the right side of the front firebox door, at the top and bottom. The pin which is part of the top hinge, works its way up while opening and closing the door. The pin has to be reseated by lifting the door upward by the handle, on the left side of the door, and then pushed back down once the holes in the hinge are aligned. This is a major safety hazard because should the pin actually pop out, it would be impossible to close the door. Assuming there’s a fire burning in the stove, the potential for a house fire or at least excessive smoke is obvious. In addition, the weight of the door can bend the bottom hinge such that the door will no longer align properly and, thus, not seal, making the stove inefficient.

I have contacted the sales person from whom we purchased the unit as well as the service department. Neither recognized or acknowledged this issue, nor did they express any interest in addressing it.

The product, in the report: Cast Iron wood burning stove

Jotul Wood Stove F3 The cast iron and glass door fell off the stove almost injuring and burning my hand. Upon examining the top hinge socket cracked off the front of stove letting the hinge pin fall out. The bottom hinge is not capable of supporting the entire weight of door. Also noticed the hole was drilled off-center. Poor design, continuous or 3 hinges would work better.
