The product, in the report: Electric, Sunbeam Tower Quartz heater, 1500W, Model # SQH310WM, sold at Walmart.

Complainant’s 14 yo son smelled a ‘burning’ odor emitting from one of two, 1 month old electric Sunbeam Tower Quartz heater, model # SQH310WM which were purchased to augment heat for the residence. The heater was unplugged. Later the same day, the mother arrived home and unplugged the second heater after noticing the same issue. Further inspection revealed the prongs on both heaters were ‘blackened’ as well as the outlets which they had been plugged into. The front grill also was ‘depressed’ or otherwise not in new condition. These heaters were not damaged or modified prior to this incident and used only occassionally. The complainant returned both products, sales receipt, owner’s manuals to the Wal-Mart from where he purchased them in exchange for a different make and model of heater. No photos were taken, no injuries or additional property damage were realized. The complainant is very concerned about the safety issues involved with these heaters from his professional background/experience.
