  1. No one hurt

Made May 9, 2014, sent to the company Jun 13, 2014, published by CPSC Jun 27, 2014

The product, in the report: dbr Fan Heater Model #125

    April 29, 2014 [REDACTED] U.S.Consumer Product Safety Commission 4330 East West Highway Bethesda,MD 20850

Subject: dbr Fan Heater Model #125 (The front and back of the owner’s manual is attachment 1)

I am writing to you to report a totally defective space heater which is unsafe for use under any circumstance.

I purchased this space heater at Big 5 Sporting Goods,7111W.Alameda Avenue,lakewood,CO,80226, December 30,2013 (attachment 2A). Exactly three weeks later the fan stopped turning; thus no heat. I returned this heater to Big Lots January 20,2014,and got a replacement plus a $10.00 refund since this item was now on sale (attachment 28). The replacement heater made enough noise to wake up the dead but at least the fan turned and it put out some heat. I assume the noise was caused by the fan hitting the interior of the housing unit.

On April20 the fan stopped turning on this unit also and all could hear was a loud humming noise. When I went to take a closer look at the heater I made the mistake of touching the housing unit and came close to getting a severe burn. The housing unit was red hot. The owner’s manual states “This heater is hot when in use”. I am currently using one [REDACTED] brand space heater and one [REDACTED] brand space heater and have used [REDACTED] space heaters and I know for a fact none of these three space heaters ever got hot. They were warm to the touch but not hot. I believe the dbr Fan Heater was hot enough to cause a serious burn or catch on fire. I unplugged the heater immediately and put it in the garage so no one could use it. The power cord and plug were not hot

With the 100% failure rate with these two heaters I would bet money that more than half of these heaters are defective and a safety hazard and should be pulled off the shelves. Could that be the reason The Acme Group does not show a complete mailing address- they don’t want to be bothered?

    Sincerely, [REDACTED]
