  1. No one hurt

Made Apr 5, 2018, sent to the company Jul 31, 2018, published by CPSC Aug 14, 2018

The product, in the report: Presto Parabolic Interior Space Heater, model#: 0791206.

We own a Presto Parabolic Space Heater, Model #: 0791206, purchased from Costco, Billings, MT, around 2012. This heater works very well with the exception, it continues to operate and produce significant heat, even when the heater’s sole control knob is in the OFF position. The control mechanism has no ‘clicks’. ‘stops’ or other physical indicators which would show that the heater is in the OFF, HIGH, MEDIUM or LOW positions. This morning I had the heater in the OFF position in my home office. My wife happened to push an office chair close to the heater. The chair had my jacket hanging on it. In a few minutes I smelled the odor of smoke. I noticed that the heater, in the OFF position, had gone into the HIGH mode, and the heat almost caused a fire by burning my jacket. We will stop using this heater because it is so dangerous. Applicable photos have been taken.

  3. No one hurt

Made Jan 28, 2016, sent to the company Feb 5, 2016, published by CPSC Feb 23, 2016

The product, in the report: Presto Parabolic Space heater. Heat dish purchased at Costco approximately 2 years ago. There is no manufacturing date code nor serial number on the device. Only the model number.

Presto Heat dish with foot lamp - approx 2 years old. Model # 0791407

Unit has begun to Arc and spark. Daughters have reported arcing from heat dish to other metal objects.

Now the unit emits sparks from the temperature control knob. The unit will run on high even when the temperature control dial is on low. Unit has even turned on even when the temperature control dial is in the off position. Unit was found to be running on High when the temperature control dial was in the off position. This is a very dangerous potential fire hazard.

Unit remains unplugged and will not be used due to this dangerous situation.
