The product, in the report: Portable electric fan-forced space heater, black, compact box style with front grille and fan. Two control knobs on top (fan/heat settings and thermostat). 120V, 1500W.

I purchased a Pelonis fan-forced space heater (Model PSHF10M1ABBV, 1500W). While testing the heater in heat mode, I tilted/tipped the unit onto its side and the heater continued to operate and produce heat instead of shutting off. The tip-over safety shutoff did not function as intended. This is a potential fire hazard. No injuries or property damage occurred. I unplugged the unit and am returning it. The unit also makes intermittent motor whine during operation.

2013: The heater can toppled over very easily. The slightest movement, makes it easy to fall over. The 2 front wheels are approximately 1-1/2 inches inward from the edge.

The heater has fallen over and the handle is broken and the part where the cord is wrapped around it, also broke. This only happens when the heater is moved.

The consumer will not contact the manufacturer, because of the length of time she has it. There have not been any injuries.

The heater has multiple settings (low, medium & hi), and it still works.

The product, in the report: Pelonis HC-2017 ceramic portable heater

I have a HC-2017 ceramic portable heater we purchased at Lowes a few years ago. We don’t use it that much because we live in Peoria, AZ where is not that cold. I took it to our trailer this year in the mountains on a trip. It worked for a couple of days then it would not work anymore.

I took it home and took it apart and was shocked at what I saw. Inside the main power coming into the unit was all burnt and the connector was corroded and broken. I fixed this and was going to still use the unit. I did some research online and someone said to take off the bottom cover and check it. Man am I glad I did. The main power cable is burnt and shorting out.

If we would have continued to use it, it would have eventually caught fire. I am shocked there is no recall for this unit.

The product, in the report: Pelonis Fan-Forced Heater, Model: HF-0020T (120v, 60 Hz, 1500w) (Intertek 3068797)

My wife was using the space heater in the living room to provide supplemental heat when she heard a pop, and an unusual noise. She immediately turned it of and unplugged it. There is a small electrical burn hole in the bottom/base of the heater. I took off the back cover and discovered that the wiring where the external power cord was connected to the interior electronics (connected by wiring caps) was charred/burnt and melted. This heater was being used for everyday household use and wasn’t being abused. I believe this heater would have most certainly started a fire in the house if it was left unattended.

The product, in the report: Pelonis fan-forced portable space heater, model# HF-0063, date code 1508; serial# appears to be 20215109Z

The product was a Pelonis space heater, model# HF-0063, date code 1508; serial# appears to be 20215109Z. I bought this product @ Home Depot on or shortly before 2016-Feb-1.

I’ve used this product in winter only. This (winter 2017-2018) would be the 3rd winter in which I used the product (the heater is less than 2 years old).

I’ve always used this fan-forced heater in its oscillation or swing mode, in which the body of the heater automatically rotates left & right using a motor.

Today the heater turned off unexpectedly; its display was completely blank, and pushing the power-on button did nothing.

I unplugged the heater & plugged it back in; the heater still didn’t work.

Thinking that the problem might be where the power cord enters the heater, I flexed the cord somewhat. Soon the heater started beeping intermittently; it normally beeps when it’s turned on.

A few seconds later, with an arcing sound, a jet of flame, about 3 inches long, shot out of the point where the power cord enters the heater. That flame might have caught something else on fire if there had been any such object close enough.

After a couple of seconds, the flame seemed to extinguish itself the moment before I pulled the plug from the wall.

This heater’s predecessor, a similar unit by DeLonghi, also failed due to the power cord flexing, but didn’t emit any flame. Apparently it’s possible to design this kind of heater so that it doesn’t emit flame even if the power cord does fail.

The product was brand new out of the box and was then plugged directly into the wall outlet in my room away from any flammable surfaces. It was placed on the concrete floor. It had been running for about 45 minutes on the high heat setting. I was leaving the room, so I turned the dial to off and left. Within minutes the heater had started on fire. Thankfully someone noticed and called the fire department. The flames were put out before the fire department arrived, however there was quite a bit of smoke from the heater completely being on fire and melting.

The product, in the report: Pelonis Oil Filled Radiator Heater Model HO-0250H, 120V, 60Hz

My son was using Pellonis Oil Filled Radiator heater (Model HO-0250H) in his apartment (the apt. is located right behind my house). This was only the third time that the heater has been used since purchasing last Dec. He came to my house at 6:30 this morning and said something was wrong with the heater and his apartment was filled with a hazy cloud. He said he woke up coughing and gasping for breath. He could only take short gasping breaths and said the only word he could think of to describe the feeling was “drowning.” He could not breath in the apartment. I ran to the apartment immediately, and it was filled with a cloudy haze and smelled like overheated oil. My son had already unplugged the heater, so we opened all the doors and put large fans in the doorways to draw the haze out. It is now almost 12:30 (after lunch) and the apartment still smells like heated oil This heater nearly suffocated my son because it overheated and the safety mechanism to shut it off did not kick in. I tried calling customer support for the product, but all I get is a recording in a foreign language: Midea America Corp Customer Care Center, 11800 NW100th Rd, Suite 4, Medley FL 33178 1-866-646-4332.

The Pelonis Oil-Filled Radiator Heater, Model HO-0221 was plugged in before sleep to warm the bedroom. UL Listed E190384. It was unplugged in the middle of the night as the room was warmed. In the morning, we noticed the plug was completely charred, melted to the point that one of the prongs remained in the outlet. This is a frightening fire safety hazard, not only with regard to the charred remains but with regard to the potential to start an electrical fire.

In looking up this product to see if it was previously recalled, I find that this UL Listed product is still on the market and has not been recalled. Yet, I find that the very same manufacturer has had this problem before with the plug. Why didn’t the manufacturer and UL take extra care to ensure that the same problem didn’t repeat itself?

I plugged it back in and it began smelling like burning wires again. I unplugged it again and the knob will not rotate now. its been unplugged since the incident.

Purchased a Pelonis Model HO-0250 Electric Radiator Heater for use in our home. Our smoke detector went off late at night and upon investigation discovered that the entire bottom of the heater was charred and hot oil was leaking onto the floor. Quickly pulled the cord from the wall and carried it outside where it was smoking until cool. Very dangerous, had we not discovered this in time our house would have burned down.

I have a Pelonis Oil Filled Radiator Heater Model HO-0218H which is approximately 1 to 2 years old. Saturday night 15 February 2014, the heater started to smoke a little and filled the room we were in with a extremely acrid smell with what I will guess was some sort of electrical problem. I immediately unplugged the heater and removed from the house. I have tried to call the company but have not been successful in reaching them by phone. Have also sent an email to inquire as to remedy or would they like the product back for examination. This product is out of warranty, which is 1 year.

Consumer stated that the heater malfunctioned and started to overheat and smoke. He noticed that the control switch did not function properly, if low heat was selected it would go to medium high after using it approximately 3 weeks ago. This incident occurred when he used the control switch and there was an odor of something burning, he immediately unplugged the heater and return it to the store.

The manufacturer was contacted and he was informed by a representative that he would relate the issue to his supervisor.

He is concerned that this heater is a fire hazard and should be reported.

I had recently purchased a Pelonis OH-250 electric oil-filled radiator heater to heat a sun room area in our house. Two days ago we heard a loud bang, I ran out to see that had happened and found that the heater had basically blown up. One of the chambers is greatly expanded and ruptured. The paint is burned off in this area. Smoke filled my entire house.

I’ve been in contact with the company, they seem willing to replace the unit and want quotes for the damage. They also want me to ship the unit back to them. They will pay for shipping but i’m somehow supposed to wrap this thing up so that it will not leak and send it to them. I am not comfortable doing so.

    I have pictures available.

This is an extremely dangerous product.

As of this morning I smelt a foul smell coming from the heater (smell of smoke and a sparking sound), so I proceeded to shut it off. A couple hours later I turned it back on and the orange light would only light up when the heater was supposed to be off. (On the 0) It wouldn’t light up for 1, 2 or 3 but still would heat up. It was ON in the OFF position. When turning the knob it would make a funny noise and it smelt like something was burnt so I immediately discontinued power and searched for a place to send this email.

I found this website and saw people were having similar issues and the device actually caught on fire in some cases.

I bought the Pelonis Fan-Forced Heater as supplemental heat for my daughters’ room on cold nights. We used it last night, and this morning I awoke to the smell of burning plastic and their room seemed smoky. I assumed it was the heater so I unplugged it. Tonight, I wanted to double check, so I plugged it in and turned it on. There was a sizzling sound and a flame shot up from the wires inside. The heater is less than a year old and has hardly been used. It has been taken care of and is not dusty or dirty, nor was it placed near any walls or objects.

One always assumes that these things are tested and safe, but apparently that is not the case. We could have been burned to death. I’m pretty shook up.

Me and my daughter was watching tv last night, in our family den. We have a little forced air space heater we purchased last winter. This is an item we use off and on. It’s a PELONIS Model HF-0020T with I think serial number:3068797.

We had it on the highest setting and it was working fine. All of a sudden a loud fizzling noise came from the heater, with a big sparking flash inside. All of a suddne it caught fire inside where the cord wiring inside meets with the outside cord. It smelled like rubber burning so I unplugged the device and extinguished the flame. I looked underneath the item and there was a small hole from the arcing wire inside.

The item in my opinion just simply sparked and caught fire inside.

I called the manufacturer, whose phone is listed on the item. They are supposed to call me back with answers today, Nov. 14th.

    I do have pictures.

The product, in the report: small portable electric heater

The consumer noticed a chemical odor after operating the heater for approximately 3 hours.

He then also noticed a few sparks coming from the control panel. The heater was operating on the low setting when the failure occurred.

The consumer powered it in the off position. He has not used the heater since the failure occurred.

On 3/13/2012 the firm was contacted and the consumer states that he was advised to mail the heater back into the firm. The consumer states that he declined in sending it back and knows what he needs to do to fix the failure.

    No further information was provided.

    UPDATE FROM CONSUMER:

Heater is approx. 8 3/4” high and molded feet (front to rear) light weight L.H. 2 3/4” long RH 3 3/4” long Easily tips over, on hard surface and worse on rug

I am considering adding a board under heater to reduce possibility of tipping over. There is more than enough room in heater base for some screws and still stay well away from internal parts and wiring.

The odor first noticed appears to have come from charring of heat-shrink tub insulation on the connector- no fire resulted.

Local retailer had obtained more of this heater and exchanged my heater (with bad connection). I also purchased an extra heater. These heaters are expensive and have a low setting of 600 watts, which will be useful in warming storage areas. The heater with the defect may have been a rare anomaly and was not a design defect but was an assembly error and I know what to watch for. If connector parts are misaligned when they are pushed together the spring tension is reduced and connection will heat up and deteroriate further.

The element wires (that produce the desired heat) do not get hot enough to show any visible light. Heater should last a long time. Some radiant type heaters’ elements can burn out.

Use of the replacement heater shows no problem to date, but I will add a comment/suggestion.

The product, in the report: From Company Website: Forced Air Heaters add quick and powerful heat to small rooms and are uniquely styled to complement the home, office, or work area. Features include automatic thermostats, LED displays, oscillation, New eSave enerfy saver controls, and fan only settings that circulate room air

Good Morning, My name is [REDACTED] and I purchased the Fan-Forced Heater (Model:HF-0020T) from Wal-Mart (http://pelonis.com/forced.htm) . I was wondering if there was a recall on this product. I ask this because I suffered a burn on my foot from this heater. I use this heater at work, in an office area. I keep the unit on the floor pointed a good distance from my feet. One morning, I woke up with a blister on my foot and went to urgent care, I was informed that it was due to a burn. This surprised me because I am not sensitive to heat. They asked me have a dropped anything hot on my foot (which I havent) and I informed them that the only thing hot that comes anywhere near my feet is my heater. They immediately informed me that thats what cause the burn on my foot. With a burn blister, I just have to wait for it to run its course and use an ointment once it opens. I didnt want this to happen to anyone else, its quite painful and cost me 8 sicks hours at work. I am Anemic and I’m always cold in public places, I purchased this unit after my old one broke. I attempted to contact the company, the first email had no response. I attemted to resend to the same email address and it kept bouncing back saying it’s no longer active Thank you, [REDACTED]
