The product, in the report: Best Comfort Milkhouse Utility Heater; UPC 009326453330 Width 7”; Depth 10”; Height 14.5”; Weight 5.5lb
I own multiple items of this heater; and only recently discovered they all have the same serial number. Occasionally, the automatic heater will kick on and will NOT disengage, causing a possible fire hazard.

The product, in the report: Patton cube heater, 1500 watt. Approx 5”x5”x6”
I plugged in a small cube heater which we’ve used many times. In this instance, about 20 seconds after turning it on the unit started to spark, glow bright orange red and emit black smoke. There was the odor of electrical fire. The house circuit breaker tripped and the sparks/fire went out.

No one hurt Made Nov 19, 2019, sent to the company Dec 20, 2019, published by CPSC Jan 7, 2020
The product, in the report: Portable electric space heater
11/2018: The consumer purchased the heater and found that it could only be used on the “high” setting. The temperature setting could not be changed. The consumer used it for approximately 1 Winter. During the Winter, the heater was used daily and primarily at night. The consumer said that the electric prong on this heater turned black and appeared to be burned and part of the cord that is connected to the prong showed signs of melting. Furthermore, the wall outlet that the heater was plugged into is blackened and discolored.
NOTE: The consumer estimates that this is the 3rd or 4th heater she has had by this manufacturer in the last 2 - 3 years. She experienced safety issues with all of the previous heaters and they “all” eventually quit working (see below).
1. Two of the previous heaters had a similar problem, where they only worked on the high setting. 2. There was something wrong with the dial on one of the 3 previous heaters. 3. The electric prongs on 2 of the prior heaters turned black in color and also showed signs of melting.
The consumer returned all of the heaters to the retailer at different times, over the years, and they exchanged them for her with the same brand, but possibly different models.
Current heater: 120 V, AC, 1500 watts, Intertek: 3065641, UL Std: 1278
The consumer has tried to find contact information for the manufacturer, but has not been able to.
The heaters have Made in China on them.

The product, in the report: Grey 2 tone metal case with padded top handle.
A non-injury incident happened at 4pm on 1/22/15. We own a Patton portable heater. At the base of the plug there was a short and it sparked and started an electrical fire. My son grabbed the plug and unplugged the unit. I have a picture of the unit.

The product, in the report: Space heater
I have a Patton PUH680. I left it plugged in to an outlet in my camper on high heat and came back two ours later. The heater cord had caught fire and melted the prongs off the outlet and singed the area around the outlet. The upper outlet of a duplex outlet was destroyed but the lower outlet still worked.

No one hurt Made Feb 10, 2014, sent to the company Feb 20, 2014, published by CPSC Mar 7, 2014
The product, in the report: Patton portable space heater, model #PUH4842M
I was using the Patton portable electric heater, model #PUH4842M to thaw frozen water pipes in my bathroom. I ran it for two days on the highest thermostat setting (#7) and at the high fan setting. It was operating in a small (approximately 3’ by 3-1/2’ by 3’) area. The pipes thawed and I turned it off. The next evening, we were expecting below zero temperatures again and when I turned it on, it didn’t work. I should note that the “on” indicator light never went off, even when I had turned it off. I looked at the instructions and under “troubleshooting”, I saw that it was recommended to unplug the heater if it didn’t work and then plug it in again. I did so and waited perhaps an hour before plugging it back in. Again, the “on” indicator light was on even though the heater was turned off. When I advanced the thermostat and the fan, the heater immediately start to burn. I turned it off and removed it from my home. There were no injuries.

No one hurt Made Apr 21, 2013, sent to the company Apr 29, 2013, published by CPSC May 13, 2013
The product, in the report: Portable electric heater. Manufactured by Patton. It is a PattonPUH680 1500W heater at 60 Hz. Gray in color. 120V AC
Two years ago I purchased a portable heater made by Patton. The heater was purchased at walmart. It is a: Patton, PUH680, 60Hz,1500W heater. The heater received light to moderate use during the cold months as a supplemental room heater.
I turned on the heater on the lower setting and left the room. Upon returning about ten minutes later I smelled a very bad fishy type smell (burning wires) and a smoky smell as well. I immediacy turned the heater off and threw it outside.
The next day I took the heater rear cover off to see what had happened and I discovered that one of the lead ins to one of the heating coils had burned through the protective wiring cover and was shorting out. This heater was adult owned and used, it was never abused in any way. To have the wire burn through was a cause of serious concern for me. There were no electrical storms nor service interruption in any way.
No room damage nor structure fire occurred because I was nearby. However a structure fire may have developed if this was not noticed in time.

Hurt, no treatment Made Feb 24, 2012, sent to the company Mar 2, 2012, published by CPSC Mar 16, 2012
The product, in the report: Patton Milkhouse Utility Heater http://www.walmart.com/ip/Patton-Milkhouse-Utility-Heater/10554693
I had a “milkhouse” heater from Wal-mart that was covered under this previous recall: http://www.cpsc.gov/CPSCPUB/PREREL/prhtml11/11069.html
Shortly after this recall was issued I returned the heater to Wal-mart. They gave me a “Patton Milkhouse Utility Heater” (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Patton-Milkhouse-Utility-Heater/10554693) as a replacement.
I’ve noticed twice in the past two weeks that the cord and plug of the Patton get very hot while running. the outside was quite uncomfortable to touch (unable to hold) and I burned my hand on the prongs when I touched them after unplugging. It was only a minor first degree burn, but is definitely not safe to use.
