First aid Made Apr 21, 2023, sent to the company Apr 26, 2023, published by CPSC May 10, 2023
The product, in the report: 1500-Watt Electric Fan Forced Portable Heater. White, measuring 8.9” W x 4” L x 8.75” H
A 1500-Watt Electric Fan Forced Portable Heater caught fire under a desk. The fan is manufactured in China for and sold by Home Depot (SKU 1004348759). The employee smelled plastic burning and noted the heater was smoking and then burst into flames. He was able to get the heater unplugged and outside so that all damage was limited to the heater itself. There were no injuries other than burning eyes and dry throats from the smoke created from the burning plastic. It was determined that airflow wasn’t restricted, the heater was not in contact or near any combustible materials. The heater does not have a tip over switch but the heater was sitting on a concrete floor in an upright position. The heater was plugged into an outlet with adequate amperage and voltage for the heater. The heater is supposed to have “Overheat protection for added safety” which we believe did not operate properly because the fan was running until it was unplugged. The incident was reported to Home Depot but they did not seem interested.
