The product, in the report: Lifesmart Model # ZCHT1001US 1500-Watt 6-Element Large Room Infrared Bulb Heater

A brand new space heater (Lifesmart Model # ZCHT1001US 1500-Watt 6-Element Large Room Infrared Bulb Heater) under normal use with adequate air flow situation in the middle of a bedroom overheated and melted external and internal parts (filter screen, filter frame, fan blades). A foul odor filled the room, but no smoke or fire were present. The heater displayed an error and switched off. An identical heater purchased at the same time also overheated but was disconnected from power before the unit switched itself off.

Purchased at Home Depot. Reviews on the Home Depot web site indicate others have experienced same issues. The literature included with the heater has a web site that is no longer available.

The product, in the report: Infrared Zone Heating System model number LS-1000X-4W S/N H291200665.

My wife was woken by a burning smell in the middle of the night. The Life Smart brand Infrared zone heating system space heater we keep in our bedroom the blower fan failed and the heating element was still energized. There was no fan to move the heat and it started to give off a very pungent burning smell. I unplugged it, reported the incident to the manufacturer:

Infrared Zone Heating System model number LS-1000X-4W S/N H291200665. I purchased it from Menard’s in 2012 however I no longer have the receipt. Unfortunately the thing nearly burned my house down. My wife and I awoke to a strong burning smell around 4 o’clock in the morning and I found that the heating element was on but the fan was not blowing. The unit was so hot I could not touch it. I pulled the plug out of the wall and let it cool down.

The product, in the report: Life Smart 1500w infrared heater

I am very concerned that the Life Smart 1500 watt space heater will cause a fire. When used a few hours, the AC plug gets extremely hot, so much so that the wall plate in my home began to melt. I purchased two of these units at the same time and the second one exhibits the same problem. I can supply photos of the damage if needed.
