The product, in the report: Envi High-Efficiency Whole Room Plug-In Electric Panel Heater (HH1012T)

I purchased an Envi High-Efficiency Whole Room Plug-In Electric Panel Heater Model HH1012T from heat.com on October 23, 2015. I installed the unit about six months later in a building. About one week ago I smelled something burning in the building. I examined the heater and found that the upper right side, near the unit controller had completely melted. The wood on the wall above the spot where the unit melted was scorched.

Model Number: HH1012T Serial Number: 328553 Voltage Rating: 120V, 3.95 Amps

This Envi wall-mount heater was mounted in our bathroom and used occasionally, not all the time. This unit was purchased in 2015 from the manufacturer’s Web site. Today, 11/29/19, I pushed the power button, the unit sparked with a small flame and started smoking. I pushed the power button off and unplugged the unit. No personal damage. I looked up recall notices on the Envi site and found there was a recalled issued in 2018. I have registered with eheat. They are sending a shipping box for the return/repair of this product.

    Incident Type: Fire

Description: I wanted to bring to your attention that the unit from the above referenced order overheated and nearly caused a fire in my 6-year old daughters room this morning (01/26/2018) just before 4 A.M EST. She awakened to a strong odor and then awakened her mother and I. We immediately determined that the smell was coming from this unit. I quickly removed after also noticing that it was extremely hot. Upon removal from the wall the unit had left significant scorch marks that would have most assuredly caused a house fire if it had not been discovered. The issue seems to have centered directly around and behind the power button.

We had used this unit with no issues since 2015 and found it to be a very reliable product that met our supplemental heating needs.

I am more than happy to send a photo of the wall, as well as ship the unit to you, for your inspection.
