No one hurt Made May 28, 2026, sent to the company Jun 24, 2026, published by CPSC Jul 10, 2026
The product, in the report: Dyson Pure Hot+Cool HP04 purifying heater + fan
My Dyson Pure Hot+Cool HP04 purifying heater + fan showed charring, discoloration, and melting on its white plastic rim. There was a serious risk of fire and/or injury if I had not noticed the charring before touching the machine. Fortunately, no injuries occurred.
The machine was running on standard heat mode set at 70 degrees Fahrenheit. The Dyson machine was not placed near a radiator or fireplace, nor was it covered with any foreign object. It was being used in accordance with manufacturer guidelines. I had purchased the machine new from Costco in November 2021.
The manufacturer (Dyson Escalation Team) keeps insisting that “This is not considered a product fault, and there is no safety risk associated with the issue.” I disagree.
On April 11, 2026, the Dyson Escalation Team offered to replace the machine with a refurbished, similar model, and I agreed to the replacement and provided them with my shipping information so that an exchange order and return label would be generated. Unfortunately, since then, Dyson has not honored its offer and has ignored multiple follow-up emails from me. I finally asked in writing for a senior manager to contact me and honor their offer, and still zero response from Dyson.
Description of Risk of Harm: the device’s plastic casing was melted and charred, indicating high, concentrated heat beyond the device’s design limits. Had I not noticed the issue in time, there was a risk of harm to me from (1) unsafe fumes from melting plastic that I would have inhaled continuously while sleeping and/or (2) a fire igniting at the device’s location inside my bedroom, which could have caused serious injury or death.

No one hurt Made Jun 13, 2022, sent to the company Jun 24, 2022, published by CPSC Jul 11, 2022
The product, in the report: portable electric heater
6/9/2022: The heater was in the off position. The consumer tried to turn on the heater, but it would not start. She examined it and found that the plug had melted.
The burn occurred near the portion of the plug, on the prongs that are inserted into the wall outlet. That part is also busted and wires are exposed.
6/10/2022: The consumer called the manufacturer and reported the matter to them. Their rep. (name unknown), told her that it was out of warranty and there was nothing they could do for her.
NOTE: This was a replacement heater, sent directly from the manufacturer, that had the same exact problem. This was supposed to be a better model. This heater is selling for $500 and her prior model was sold for around $400. The model/serial information for the previous heater is unavailable.
The consumer did not have an exact day, but she received this heater some time back in 2021.
There was a prior [REDACTED], for this firm’s heaters back in 2014, which included model: [REDACTED]. Based on her experience with 2 heaters, she is concerned for other people and said a new/expanded recall may be needed for this firm’s heaters.

The product, in the report: Dyson heater, cooler, purifier Gray and silver Oscillating and can be angled a little back or front facing Has magnetic remote control Model VJ8-US-KKA9008A UPC 3049-16/04
I had the Heat, cool purifier plugged into an outlet, the unit was running as usual, with no issues or signs of any issues. I was in the same area as the unit. I went to the kitchen, I thought I smelled something burnt. I could see my granddaughter from where I was standing in my kitchen, at first I thought it was just a neighbor that was using there wood stove. I didn’t immediately rush to the living room where both the unit and my granddaughter was, until the odor was worse while at the same time the living room lights were flickering off and on. When I rushed to the living room, I immediately saw a black soot like smoke, I noticed the heater not working, the plug was still in the outlet I rushed to pull the cord from the outlet, while it was sparking, smoking, one of the prongs to the cord had turned black, the bottom rubber part of the plug was hot and melted. The outlet was black and burnt and was too hot to touch, I don’t know what could of happened If I didn’t notice the odor getting stronger and the soot & smoke in the air moving towards my 3 yr old granddaughter, I don’t know what would of happened, if it would of caused a fire, I can’t even think about if my granddaughter went near the heater or the area it was in. I can’t use that outlet anymore and I even if I could, I would never chance using this product ever again, I was originally going to try to order a new cord, especially where I paid, I think over $400 or close to that for this item. I honestly can’t remember the exact price, I purchased this heater, cooler from QVC, NEVER EVER EXPECTING something like this to happen from such a prestige company. I could not afford to buy such an expensive item but looked at this purchase as more of an investment, instead of purchasing a lesser quality heater, cooler that would only need to be replaced in a year or two. I also used the payment plan that QVC offers, or I would never of been able to afford it.

The product, in the report: Dyson AM09 Hot & Cool Bladeless Fan & Heater with Jet Focus /Black/Nickel
Dyson model JA4-US-KBA1553A turns on by itself. Discover heat is running many times with no input from human. Investigated and found that our remote on existing year 2000 Philips surround sound activates the power button on this Dyson. This is not good and could trigger unit to start when moved into corner of room against wall or couch and massive electric bill. How do I stop this from activating on OR change the remote frequency? Dyson answered: Unfortunately, we do not have a way to block the activation, as it is registering as the remote or change the remote frequency on our machines. The issue is not with the Dyson remote control. The issue is the surround sound or universal remote that you mentioned in the initial contact, that is controlling the machine. The remote manufacturer of that remote will be able to aide further.
Note: I have reached out to Dyson 2 times and they will not take any responsibility for this remote control defect. Thank you, [REDACTED]

No one hurt Made Mar 17, 2017, sent to the company Jun 9, 2017, published by CPSC Jun 23, 2017
The product, in the report: Portable “blade-less” heater and cooler unit.
A Dyson AM04 heater overheated on 3/16/2017 and the plastic cover of the unit became warped and appeared burnt. There was a burnt smell coming from the unit as well. No one was injured as a result. This unit was part of a Dyson recall back in 2014 and it was serviced by the manufacturer as part of that recall. I stopped using the overheated/burnt unit after the incident, but I own two other ones (portable “blade-less” heating and cooling units), models AM05 and AM04. Are those still a fire hazard, as they were when the recall was prompted? Should I stop using them all?

First aid Made Feb 5, 2017, sent to the company Mar 1, 2017, published by CPSC Mar 15, 2017
The product, in the report: Dyson bladeless fan/heater, blue.
I bought the product summer of 2015, but this form wouldn’t allow me to proceed unless i used todays date. Product was in living room running just fine. Then made a pop sound and stopped running. When I touched it, it was VERY VERY hot to touch. I burnt my fingertips when I touched it. I unplugged the unit and began searching for my warranty information. Then I found the recall. I would like a replacement unit sent to me please.

No one hurt Made Feb 2, 2016, sent to the company Feb 26, 2016, published by CPSC Mar 11, 2016
The product, in the report: Cooling Heater
This caller is reporting that she purchased a Dyson Cool/Heater from QVC November 11 2015.
Around mid January 2016 the caller was sitting in her family room when her smoke detector sounded, she returned to the room where the unit was located and saw that the unit and her entire wall were both on fire. The submitter noted the unit was not on fire - the cord and socket were on fire.
She called the fire department. The submitter also noted she pulled the plug out to the wall and fire went out, then she called the fire department.
She contacted an electrician to inspect the wall electrical socket and replace it since it was burned.
The electrician informed the caller that the fire had not begun in the wall socket but by the heater that was plugged into it.
There are no injuries being reported.
The caller contacted the manufacturer, sent them the cooler/heater which they say they have disposed of when the caller told them she wanted it returned.
The manufacturer $257.77 and new Dyson AM09 Hot & Cool Jet Focus but the caller is afraid to have another one of their products in her home.
The submitter added she also requested many times a report of what was wrong with socket as they claimed that the problem was not the machine. The submitter stated she was told “we [FD] don’t do that..”

The product, in the report: Dyson hot + cool fan
We purchased a Dyson AM04 fan/heater in April 2015. It was plugged into a wall outlet. My wife went to plug another device into the other receptacle and found that the fan cord was very hot and had scorched the outlet. It would have caused a fire if had been left plugged in.

The product, in the report: The item does not fit the product types very well. This is a Dyson space heater+cooler.
I have a Dyson hot and cold space heater which I purchased at Bed Bath and Beyond on 11/28/2013. When I turned it on today 11/20/2014, it failed to operate, and it blew out the electrical circuits in my bedroom. Although I have thrown the circuit breaker for every circuit in the house, electricity is still not working in my bedroom. I have to pay an electrician to come and fix the electrical problem that the Dyson space heater has caused.

The product, in the report: It is a fan and space heater. My fan is colored Iron/Blue.
I use this as a space heater in my son’s bedroom. When I plugged it in tonight, it started to operate like normal. The temperature displayed and the fan waited until the temperature dropped and it had to turn on to heat the room. When the fan activated, I was in the room across the hallway. I heard a pop and some grinding and when I entered the room, the area inside the screen was on fire and smoke was coming out of the fan. I unplugged the fan and the fire burned out, leaving a strong electrical fire smell in the house.
