The product, in the report: Duraflame brown space heater that looks like a fireplace with an artificial flame. 16” H x 13” W x 8” deep

I tested the tip over protection on a space heater and it failed. I have a different model from the same company and it also fails. They both do not turn off when the tipped over.

UPDATED ON 2/5/2026: [Description of Risk of Harm: If the heater is tipped over, for example, by a child or pet and does not shut off it could cause a fire.

Also, these heaters are UL or CSA listed. Both listings require auto shut off when tipped over to be compliant. ]

UPDATED ON 2/10/2026: [The unit is lacking the tip over shutoff feature required by CSA with having the CSA label on it. If it was knocked over it would cause a fire. ]

The product, in the report: Infrared Heater

The consumer indicates that she had her heater on for a couple of hours when she smelled something burning. The consumer checked around her home and realized that the source was the heater so she immediately unplugged the unit from the wall and put out the flames behind its glass door using a hair dryer. The consumer notes that the wires were exposed.

The consumer contacted the Manufacturer and explained the situation under Ticket [REDACTED]; the representative she spoke to informed her that someone would get back to her but she has yet to hear from someone.

The consumer states that the unit was used four to five times per week during colder months.

The consumer plans on keeping the heater for at least the next thirty days in case an investigation ensues.

The product, in the report: Room ceramic tower heater

Purchased a 1500W Ceramic Tower Heater on 12-16-16 as a supplemental heater for my son’s room. He lives with his girlfriend nearby but was planning on staying in his room on Christmas and New Years. He also used it on occasional days he stopped by to help us with tasks around the house. The heater ran just a few days. Last week, my son complained about a plastic smell coming from the heater. Yesterday I found the heater had melted on the bottom and melted the carpet beneath it. If this heater had been used more frequently, and possibly, a normal amount rather than sparsely as my son it, it would have caused a fire and more damage. This is dangerous product

The product, in the report: portable electric space heater, Has a wood cabinet and LCD dispay

Heater was plugged into standard wall receptacle. Began using approximately first of November for heating prior to using home heating system. Heater uses thermostat and automatically turns on and off to maintain selected temperature setting, so heater is left plugged in. Returned to home after approximtely 24 hours away and could smell smoke as approached house. Upon entering home, the house was filled with smoke and smoke alarm was sounding. Smoke was coming from heater and element was bright orange. Immediately unplugged heater. Top and sides so hot they could not be touched, so consumer had to pick up heater by bottom and carried outside to cool down. Owner’s manual states that a thermal protection device will cut off the product when overheating to avoid fire, etc. but it appears that the safety device did not work.

The product, in the report: Duraflame Ceramic Desktop Heater with Thermostat DFH-DH-14-T

Duraflame Ceramic Desktop Heater with Thermostat DFH-DH-14-T almost caused a fire in my home last night, the power cord has melted, there were sparks flying. I’m concerned about the safety of this product. No one should have to go through what I witnessed last night. The cord melted where it connects to the unit, there is no reason for wear at this location as the device was sitting stationary on the dresser top.
