The product, in the report: Its an older model DeLonghi oil filled radiator heater
I woke up to a plastic smell and found my older DeLonghi oil filled radiator on fire. Then I found out there was a recall on these in 1991 that I never knew about. AI said I should report it as it is an ongoing issue with older models still in use.

I own a DeLonghi space heater, model #3107, that has the 816F number by the UL insignia on the side of the control box. It burst into flames where the power cord meets the control box, and which I doused out by throwing baking soda over it. The fire spewed up a lot of black ash and the flames were at least 4” high.

No one hurt Made Mar 26, 2021, sent to the company Apr 5, 2021, published by CPSC Apr 19, 2021
The product, in the report: Delonghi Type 2507 Space Heater
During the night of 22nd of December 2020 while in bed noticed the circuit breaker tripped and when I got up and noticed that the space heater that I had plugged unto the outlet had also tripped out in addition frame in the closet which stored my casual dress clothiers and my shoes were right next to closet in addition to my wash cloths and other personal hygiene and eyewear items as well as other important items.
I then noticed hanger of skirts (on fire) flame to the left of the beginning of the closet next to the oil furnace located behind the wall. I attempted to out the flame myself and ran to a neighbor’s house and had his daughter call 911 and then fire arrived. The fire fighter arrived and then evaluated in home and entered in and then gradually extinguished the flame; not sure if there were other flame.
The next day the fire marshal arrived and then evaluated in damage and asked me a few questions:
Which outlet I had the Delonghi Type 2507 space heater plugged in at What I was doing at the time of the fire
The fire marshal then filed a report and it would be ready within a couple of weeks. The situation presented emotional and mental anguish to me.

The product, in the report: DeLonghi EW7707CB oil-filled heater
I own a DeLonghi EW7707CB oil-filled heater. It caught fire because the cord frayed or melted enough to cause the hot and neutral wires to short. The heater presents a safety hazard, and my family is fortunate enough to have witnessed the short instead of it happening when everyone was asleep. The cord does not have a reinforced cord protecter where it attaches to the unit, and it enters through the bottom of the unit, concealing any cord damage. If the cord entered through the front, it would also be further away from the heating element. Please see attached photos of damaged cord.

Seen by a doctor or nurse Made Oct 30, 2020, sent to the company Jan 27, 2021, published by CPSC Feb 10, 2021
The product, in the report: Oil filled electric heater
The heater had been on the “low-low” setting and had been in use for 4 hours. The consumer said nothing was near or around the heater at the time of the incident.
At 4:00am, the heater made a loud noise then began spewing hot oil all over a high velocity. The consumer jumped up as quickly as possible and hot oil landed on both arms and both hands (from the elbows down). The consumer was wearing pajamas, but the material got saturated with the oil. The consumer unplugged the heater, but it kept spewing oil.
Her bedroom is 14” (?) and oil covered 2 different walls, the ceiling, a dresser and the carpet, and the bed.
Oil stopped spewing from the heater within 10 minutes or less.
The consumer got the heater outside. She is a veterinarian and washed her arms numerous times.
Her arms had a burning sensation for more than 2 days, then developed red painful lesions diagnosed as chemical burns..
The consumer called the firm on 10/26, 10/27, 10/28/2020 and each day, she was told that they would send her the chemical composition of the oil that was in the heater. However, the consumer did not receive the information at all - no such information was forthcoming.
The consumer has used 2 other similar heaters, that were made by this same manufacturer, for the past 10 years. She did not experience any issues with them and this was why she purchased a 3rd heater.

The product, in the report: DeLonghi EW7707CM Safeheat 1500W ComforTemp Portable Oil-Filled Radiator It’s a space heater used to add heat to a room.
Bought this unit, DeLonghi EW7707CM Safeheat 1500W ComforTemp Portable Oil-Filled Radiator, from Amazon on December 11, 2014. Used it to add heat to a bedroom during cold nights. Ran well until last Friday, April 10, 2020. I was in bed and was awaken by a noise and looked up to see the outlet where this product was plugged into sparking and flaming. I got up ran over pulled the plug and put out the small fire that had started on the carpet where a melted piece of the end of the plug had fallen. This product is definitely a fire hazard and should be recalled. At no time was this product misused. I wrote a review the next day on Amazon about this situation and asked them to remove the product from their listings. There were other customers in the reviews of this product who posted photos of the same melted plugs who were warning people not to buy it. I checked today and Amazon no longer offers this product.

The product, in the report: DeLonghi electric radiator-type space heater Model TRH0715 UPC ETL Intertek 3089052
FIRE HAZARD: DeLonghi electric radiator-type space heater TRH0715. Bought 11/2011. Problem occurred 2/2020. I have used this heater for 8 years with no problems. Quite happy with it until plug burned and melted, and singed/melted the plastic of wall receptacle. Pictures attached - enlarge the two of the plug itself to see melting of plastic and burned goo on prongs. Lucky it didn’t set the house on fire. Reviewing online comments/reports [on Amazon.com] revealed many similar experiences. All are answered by canned verbage from manufacturer (“we’re so sorry...”). Even if it’s just a small % of all those sold, this is a SERIOUS product safety problem.

The product, in the report: DeLonghi HVY1030 Fan Heater
Compact fan heater contains a thermostat to set temperature for the room. The unit thermostat becomes faulty after a few months of normal use. The unit is advertised as a safe to the touch unit perfect for a babys room. However the faulty thermostat creates a safety hazard when the unit will not turn off, creating dangerous temperatures.. the company , DeLonghi, has been contacted but refuses to acknowledge a problem exists. A simple look at product reviews on Amazon shows I am not the only person with this issue.

The product, in the report: Oil Filled radiator
DeLonghi TRH0715 Oil-Filled electric radiator Type KH770715P Serial 08218514
I purchased the heater on Amazon on September 7, 2017. It worked satisfactorily through the winter. On Saturday June 23, 2018 the plug burst into sparks and flames, though the unit was turned off at the time. I put out the fire with a hand-held extinguisher. Had I not been home my apartment would have been destroyed.
A professional electrician checked my outlet and wiring. He said the fire was caused by the heater’s un-grounded plug. He said the plug and its connecting wire were inadequate to the power requirements of the unit. It should have been sold with a grounded plug and a thicker wire.

The product, in the report: DeLonghi 715 Oil Filled Heater
I conducted a fire scene exam of a residence and concluded that a fire originated in either a plug and/or in a oil filled heater. The occupant further advised me that he had another unit by the same manufacturer that malfunctioned approx 1 year earlier. The occupant received burns to his face as a result of searching for his wife in the fire, who did escape.

The product, in the report: DeLonghi SafeHeat. Model: EW6507L Type: KH650715P Serial Number: 61114 JN (there appears to be a larger sticker next to the ending of JN that says JQ)
The heater keeps making a popping noise and it periodically sparks. When it is dark, this is very noticeable as the sparks will flash brightly. I only notice this when it is dark and I am facing the heater, but it has been happening on a daily basis for the last 2 months and they appear to becoming more frequent, so I doubt that it will stop or mitigate.
It seems as if the sparks are coming from the heater itself, since it stands about 3 feet or so from anything else and the sparks are not coming from the ground but rather a foot off the ground.
The wire is not damaged and completely fine, so I doubt it is coming from there. It is not coming from the outlet as the sparks do not come from the wall.

The product, in the report: DeLonghi TRD0715T Safeheat 1500W Portable Oil-Filled Radiator with Vertical Thermal Tunnels
I had the electric heater plugged directly into the wall and at least 3 feet away from furniture/walls of my house I had this heater set on the highest setting in order to provider some heat to an unheated room. A couple of days ago, I noticed a smell sort of a smell like plastic burning, then it went away. Yesterday I noticed the timer on the heating unit was making a humming noise which I thought odd since I didn’t have the timer set. About an hour later, I heard a loud “pop”, saw a spark fly out of the front of the unit (where the temperature controls are located), and smoke came out of the front top of the unit (just above the temperature controls and the smell of the smoke was a combination of burnt wires and plastic. I shut the unit off, and unplugged from the outlet (the power cord itself was not warm at all which I thought was interesting). I am thankful I was at home when this happened and that this unit was away from the furniture. I don’t want to guess what the outcome would have been if I wasn’t here to shut it off and unplug the unit.
The product claims “Automatically turns off with safety thermal cut-off if heater becomes too warm” I am not sure what is deemed too warm, I feel smoke coming out of the unit is too warm yet the unit didn’t shut off, I had to do it.
This morning the same model space heater plugged in a different location of the house, started to have that same plastic burning smell I immediately unplugged the unit as I didn’t want the same incident from yesterday to occur again. DeLonghi (“micathermic”) SafeHeat electric room heater, model HHP1500, used in kitchen. Had not been used since last winter. Soon after turning on, sparks started to shoot out from random locations on the heater’s flat panel; several landed on floor, which was fortunately ceramic tile. We have been using this space heater intermittently for a couple years. We decided to put it in our baby’s bedroom to enable her room to be warmer than the rest of the house, which we believe allows her to sleep better.
We recently started noticing some sparks occurring from the mica plate. They spark and then spread over a small area of the plate, but any time it’s heating up now it happens in frequency.

On Tuesday afternoon, November 22, 2011, at approximately 3PM, the Delonghi oil-filled heater in our sunroom exploded, spraying hot oil over at least one half of the room. The explosion came without any warning. My husband was in the sunroom at the time, we heard a loud “pop”, the heater sprayed hot oil on the windows, the trimwork and across the sunroom floor. My husband’s immediate response was to unplug the heater from the outlet, and I gathered towels to try and absorb the hot, steaming oil that was rapidly spreading across the floor (the floor became so slick it was difficult to take a step).

The product, in the report: Delonghi HHP1500 Safeheat Mica-Panel Heater.
I own a Delonghi HHP1500 Safeheat Mica-Panel Heater. I got this product from Home Depot about 3 years ago (2009).
Today I turned it on and was alarmed to see it SHOOT SPARKS like a tiny firework display from the main large flat micathermic panel. It is particularly dangerous because this is a SILENT heater and if you are not WATCHING the unit in action you may not notice sparking. I believe what is happening is that after many continuous on-off-on-off cycles of heating, the insulation in the micathermic element is breaking down. If this is the correct analysis, then many of these units will FAIL SPARKING in similar way after several years of use -- and go from being very safe to very unsafe.
I will keep this unit for your investigation. I maybe able to send you a video of it sparking.

Yesterday morning upon entering daughter’s room, I asked why it was so cold. She responded by using her remote at her bedside to initiate DeLonghi Heater, purchased last fall at a local retailer. The unit turned on with fan and heat. I commented to her that her mouth did not appear as swollen as she’d just had braces applied 2 days before, a rather unpleasent experiance. We then both exclaimed,”What’s that SMELL!?”! Because the heater had just been turned on, I turned to look down and saw smoke billowing out from the bottom rear left of the unit and less smoke wafting out the top of the unit, the whole time the unit continued operating as if all systems were “go”. I quickly unplugged the unit and we both left the room to be able to breathe. The stench was toxic, simular to an electrical fire in my apartment in 1976, of which a stereo that had recently been repaired from a lightning strike, was identified as the culprit. Had I not been called into work that night, its probable I would’ve died in my sleep. I came home from working NICU to my windows completly blackened with toxic soot, my door warm to touch. I woke my neighbors on both sides and tried to climb from one’s balcony to mine in attempt to rescue my 2 kittens, Gypsy and Jessica, but my neighbors kept saying I couldn’t make it ( 3rd floor apt). The firemen arrived, they had head gear, and went in to rescue them, but it was too late. It was that kind of toxic stench that was billowing into my daughter’s room from this “Delonghi SAFEHEAT” heater. It was that unavoidable memory of sheer anguish, of their limp, lifeless bodies in my arms, that motivates me almost exactly 35 years later, to put my many other priorities aside (and 2 weeks before Xmas, there’s plenty I need to be doing, believe me). For it maybe, that some good can come from the horrible death my kittens must have experianced so many years ago. I know how blessed I am to still have my child, braces and all, here with me today. And if my relating this alarming event can alert and perhaps prevent someone else’s loved one from a simular tragic occurance, then some good will be done. There is obvious plastic meltage on the unit. Should pictures or the unit itself be desired, please advise.

The product, in the report: small, white, portable heater. 120V - 60 Hz - 1500 W
Good morning. I am writing to express my concern with my DeLonghi Safe Heat Model 132 heater (Serial #13009). I use this heater at work in my office, and during my vacation a safety inspection was conducted, which resulted in an email telling me that my heater was tipped over and it did not automatically shut off; therefore, the heater failed the safety test and has to be removed.
The sticker directly adhered to the front of the heater specifically states: PTC Ceramic Thermal Cutoff: No need to worry about overheating. Even when the unit is accidently tipped over or covered by a curtain or blanket. The PTC ceramic thermal cutoff automatically shuts the unit off for complete peace of mind.
On the bottom of the heater it specifically states: Q.C. PASSED
I have been in [email] contact with the manufacturer since July 6, 2011, and they not answered my questions on why the heater’s automtic shutoff only works when the heater is tipped on its backside, and not when it is tipped on its front side. They have also not explained why the marketing of the automatic shut off does not clearly inform the consumer that it only works when the heater is tipped on its back, and not when it is tipped on its front, as it seems to me that there would be a safety concern if the heater was tipped over in either position.
