The product, in the report: Portable Oscillating Space Heater

(12/15/15 approximately) The consumer states that he purchased 2 heaters from Big Lots. The consumer states that the leg on 1 of the heaters broke and he returned it to Big Lots. The consumer received a replacement heater from Big Lots since it was within 30 days of the purchase date. The consumer is not sure if the heater he is reporting is the replacement heater.

(3/18/16) The consumer turned on the heater to a high heat level. Approximately 30 minutes later the consumer noticed a burn odor and noticed it was coming from the heater. The consumer noticed the knob was sitting off to the side and when he grabbed the knob to turn it to the “Off” position the knob came off. The consumer noticed that the area where the knob sits was melted and he noticed that the top of the fan was melted. The consumer then unplugged the heater.

The consumer states that the heater remains in the bathroom and is only used in the mornings while he gets ready for work.

(3/19/16) The consumer was searching online and came across recall # 12-200. The consumer states that his heater looks identical to the heater in the recall. However, his model is not included in the recall. The consumer contacted Big Lots and the Rep. (name unknown) advised the consumer that he would not receive a refund because his model was not included in the recall.

The consumer added he feels they kept selling the same recalled product with a different model number on packaging.

Using space heater in bedroom. Had it plugged in and turned on for about an hour. Went to living room, came back in room and smelled something burning. Looked all over room and noticed the plug of the heater was what looked to be bent. Upon further observation, I noticed the plug was actually melting and burnt inside outlet. I turned unit off and unplugged it. It was hard to unplug cuz it wad melted. It was black and so was my outlet !

The product, in the report: Climate Keeper Ceramic Heater Fan bought from Big Lots in December 2011.

My Climate Keeper ceramic heater began making a high-pitched screeching sound and small puffs of smoke began coming out of the front of the heater. Further investigation revealed that a small hole was burnt into the plastic housing of the heater. The heater apparently shorted out or overheated and melted the plastic.

The product, in the report: small ceramic heater fan - electric

Last month I purchased a small space heater from Big Lots. I run it twice a day for about an hour each time to warm up a back bedroom in my house. The other day when I went to turn it off I noticed on the face of the heater that there was a small hole where it has begun to melt. The area around the hole shows signs of heat distress.

On the bottom of the heater it states: Conforms to UL Std 1278, and I just trusted that they knew what they were doing. That’s when I realized that I should have thought it through and not purchased a space heater with plastic housing !

Climate Keeper Ceramic Heater Fan Model: FH107A

Obviously if I hadn’t turned this off when I did, there could have been a fire. I have pictures of the heater and the area in question.
