The product, in the report: Whalen Combo electric fireplace/heater is also advertised as “quantum flame” on their website. The model is EF22-23B or EF22-26B, the unit does not specify. That’s whats printed on the directions.
The Whalen combo electric fireplace heater overheats and turns itself on and off without any input. Neither the remote nor manual controls function any longer. Its both unnerving and poses a fire hazard. Multiple attempts to call and e-mail the company have been unsuccessful. One evening while I was at work it began to cycle on and off, my wife became worried when she wasn’t able to control it, as it became warm she attempted to pull it forward to free it from the wall unit and suffered a mild burn which she treated with [REDACTED] and ice. This was also reported by others on the CPSC webste.

Purchased a Whalen electric fireplace 41” console in November 2014. The insert model number is MFC-23. The plug gets hot and would continually pop a breaker no matter what outlet we plugged it into. This last time, the plug itself started melting.
