The product, in the report: Mantel Fireplace

The caller stated that his son purchased a fireplace less than a month ago and it started smoking. His son stated that that he was using it one night and he smelled a burning odor, when he tried to switch it off he was unable to do. He had to unplug the unit to prevent a fire. He noticed that the electrical wiring had melted.

11/2013 The manufacturer was contacted and he was informed to contact the retailer for a replacement or refund. The product was returned for a refund.

The product is not involved in a recall.

UPDATE FROM CONSUMER: I personally see where the wire going to the on off switch had bubbled up and became very hot, and the switch was no longer able to shut the unit off.
