The product, in the report: Electrical Fireplace

Caller purchased Oak electrical fireplace in 2009, had no problems with it 2009 or 2010 and was so happy with it that she has ordered 13 more and given them as gifts.

This year around October 6th, 2011 she plugged the fireplace in and instantly flames came out of the outlets about 8 inches long.

Caller’s husband immediately unplugged the fireplace and blew on the outlet, flames extinguished with these two actions. Callers assumed that fire was also extinguished within wall.

Caller doesn’t remember exact day, she called him the week of October 17th, 2011 she contacted electrician but he came out to her home before the end of the week. Electrician checked wiring, replaced outlet and said that the stove/fireplace caused the fire in the outlet.

She contacted the manufacturer after attempts all week on Wednesday, October 26th, 2011, she spoke with [REDACTED] who gave her reference# [REDACTED] and referred her to [REDACTED] who told her that if she sent old insert, they would send another after she paid $179.

Caller would like to report danger, she said two of the fireplaces that she purchased and sent as gifts also had electrical problems but that as far as she is aware the other 11 are fine. Caller would like to have the insert in her fireplace replaced at manufacturer expense.
