The product, in the report: Dimplex Remote Control Plug-In On/Off Unit for Dimplex Electric Fireplace.

Our Dimplex Electric Fireplace was on and working properly and then cut off suddenly. Upon checking the remote and then the wall unit, The Dimplex Remote Control Plug In Model #47-1010-R must have overheated because the wall plug was very warm to the touch. Waited a period of approximately 30 minutes and tried to turn fireplace back on and it would not come on. (The Dimplex On/Off remote control Model #47-1010T WAS working - light in unit was turning on and off when On/Off buttons were depressed.) Unplugged the fireplace cord from the Remote Control Plug-in Unit, plugged the fireplace cord directly into the electrical outlet and the fireplace worked just fine. Therefore, it appears that the Remote Control Plug In Box overheated possibly burning out that unit.

The product, in the report: Dimplex electric fireplace Plug-in Remote Control. Model number 47 - 1001 DOC ID 255K656-61- 8367R 1 black Box with indicator light and two plug-ins, one smaller Black Box with 2 remote buttons.

On Saturday, December 09th used the remote to turn on the Dimplex wood fireplace with air forced heat unit. After turning it on, I went back upstairs to allow the unit to warm the room. After about an hour, I walked pass at the top of the stairs and noticed the light in the unit was not on. I used the remote to see if it would turn back on, checked the batteries, then pushed the unit out and noticed the remote plug-in in the wall, the cord was slightly hanging out of it, and it was melted giving off a burnt wire smell. The remote plug-in unit had a soot look to the plug. I wiped it to see if it was actually burnt, but the soot came off. The end of the cord attached to the unit also had a burnt wire smell and appearance of melting. I took it apart and noticed melting in this part.

The product, in the report: Electronic fireplace with built-in electric heater

I returned home and found that the lights in my living room did not work. I checked my circuit breaker panel and found the living room circuit breaker had popped. I tried to reset it and it would not reset. I found a flashlight and investigated. There was smoke coming from behind my Dimplex electric fireplace. I pulled the plug and was able to reset the living room circuit breaker. When I left the house, I had shut off the fireplace using its remote control. I reported the incident to Dimplex and was told that this had never happened before and it could not have happened as I described because the fireplace had been shutoff. The fact that the main on/off switch was in the on position and that the remote on/off switch may have failed did not persuade them to assist me.

The product, in the report: Remote Power Control Module for electric fireplace

I have been experiencing repeated remote control failure with this stove. So, far I have had 4 units. The first was at the recall of the Gold Banded remotes & exchanged for the Red Banded units. Since then, each Red Banded unit has lasted for less & less time. The last one was received November 9th 2012 and became inoperable within 2 days Nov 11th, 2012.

Dimplex Traditional Stove Model DS55804 Mod C Ser No 1604D6 472 Part No. 6900331000

Failing Component: Power Remote Module Model No. 47-1010-R* FCCID: ELY547-47-1010-R

The problem is always the same. The plug in unit evidently overheats and melts internally around the power plug coming from the stove. I surmise this as the stove plug needs to be pried out of the remote control box. That, and the strong smell of burnt bakelite.

The remote plug in boxes appear normal from the exterior, with only a slight melting around the smaller of the two holes. At this point, they are totally inoperative as tested by plugging in a 40 watt lamp which fails to light up.

The stove is on a single circuit which is connected directly to the breaker box. At no time has a breaker been tripped. The stove continues to operate normally when plugged directly into this circuit using only the manual controls.

I have safety concerns about the these units and feel they need to be investigated. Towards that end, I have retained the last two units, should you desire to inspect them.

I have a Dimplex fireplace remote start heater. A couple weeks ago, I smelled something electrical burning. I checked all of my outlets and found that it was a our fireplace/heater remote adapter that was causing the odor. Luckily the heater tripped the breaker of my home as the adapter plug had overheated and melted around the plug prongs. I got on the internet to check for a contact number to see if the firplace could be safely plugged in to the outlet without the remote adapter. It was then I noticed a recall. model # 47-1010-R

The product, in the report: Electric Fireplace Insert Model #DF12309 and the serial number is believed to be 18307D4F376

A resident of the city where I am a fire inspector at called and stated he had a fire incident involving a Dimplex electric fireplace insert. The citizen states that he noticed an odor of smoke, smoke and flaming combustion coming from the plug-in unit (believe it maybe associated with the remote control of the insert) that the insert power cord is plugged into and then the unit is plugged into the house electric wiring outlet.

There is obvious internal damage to the plug-in unit and to the cord associated with the insert. It has heat damage to one of the plug blades/prongs and the insulating material around this connect.

There was smoke carbon on the wall and the outlet. The resident witnessed this event and intervened. If he hadn’t been home there is a distinct possibility that this would have evolved into a house fire.

The insert will need the cord and plug repaired.

The product, in the report: Dimplex Elecric Fireplace Model 26” Fireplace with Integral On/Off Remote Control, Model Number DF2608

My Dimplex electric fireplace Model DF2608) caught on fire. The electric fireplace was on and suddenly I heard several noises sounding like a “PFITT” emanating from the fireplace. I looked at it and the faux flames where pulsing very bright with each PFITT and black smoke was flowing from the fireplace vents. I was able to shut it off after several attempts with the remote control, then shut off the circuit breaker, pull out the plug and open the doors to let the smoke out and avoid smoke damage to my home.

I usually sleep with the fireplace on and wonder how bad the fire could have been had I been sleeping. It is certainly not inconceivable that it could have been catastrophic, resulting in a major fire and serious injury or even death to myself and/or others.

I reported the incident to the manufacturer and was surprised when they expressed no concern whatsoever, advising me that the fireplace was no longer under warrantee and emailing me a service manual, so I could take the fireplace apart, determine which parts had caught on fire and order replacements.

Equally disconcerting is the fact that I have no way of knowing if replacing the burnt part(s) will fix the problem or if I am just setting the stage for another fire, where the end result might not be so fortunate.

Consumer stated that while using the remote the fireplace went off and she noticed that the receiver was off when she checked it she found out that the receiver had melted and was fused into the plug she had to pry it out with an object to remove the plug from the receiver.

Consumer stated that she had received the remedy for Release #10-167 in May 2010 and that the remote worked well but the receiver was faulty and unsafe.

Consumer feels that the receiver for the remote is a fire hazard and should be recalled.

UPDATE: Consumer notified Dimplex North America of this situation. They sent someone to replace the power cord and the receiver. He replaced the cord at no charge. She has decided to not use the receiver and remote that they sent because it is identical to the one she had. She’s afraid it could cause a problem like the other one did.
