The product, in the report: space heater
Movable heater/electric fireplace purchased sometime in 2010 and callers had no problems with it until New Years Eve 2014 unit caught fire/Electrical fire. The caller and his wife were sitting by the heater watching television when he smelled a strong odor of burning electricity. His heating unit was catching fire, was smoking but had no flames associated yet because they were sitting by it and caught it early. He turned it off quickly and unplugged it. He called the phone number on it for assistance but couldn’t obtain connection other than recording regarding a high volume of calls.
There are no injuries being reported
The caller will continue with his attempts to contact the manufacturer but is asking for CPSC to assist him with obtaining assistance with either complete replacement at manufacturer expense or voucher with assistance to purchase a replacement.
