The product, in the report: Skytech fireplace receiver for remote control
I had a Skytech model SKY-1001, date code 9601 that burned and started to melt. It happened one evening before we went to bed. It’s a good thing that we weren’t sleeping; If we had been asleep, a fire may have started.
There was a burning smell that I thought might have been either a computer or a TV, but it was the SKY-1001 receiver that was mounted in the wall. It was so hot the batteries were sizzling/boiling. I pulled it out of the wall with some insulated gloves and set it outside and removed the batteries.
I sent the above report to the Support/Quality team at Skytech. I asked them if they wanted me to return the burned/melted unit so they could perform failure analysis, but they did not want it back. I’m writing you in case you would like the Skytech unit and to see if there have been other similar incidents reported. If we had been sleeping, and the burning/melting continued, a devastating fire could have resulted.
