The product, in the report: Sensi Touch Wi-Fi Thermostat Model ST75 wall mounted thermostat with remote control and monitoring phone App. Made by Emerson Electric.

Purchased a Sensi Touch Wi-Fi Thermostat Model ST75 by Emerson at Home Depot. The unit installed properly and initially worked as planned. I set it at 70 degrees heating with NO schedule. Within 2 hours the set point of the thermostat went from 70 to 74 degrees while unattended. I returned the temperature to 70 at the unit. I went to work and checked the unit on my phone app and my house displayed 85 degrees with a set point of 85 degrees. I returned the set point to 70 degrees on the App. Upon returning home the set point was 75 degrees. I called the manufacturer’s support line and waited for 40 minutes on hold. When the representative finally spoke to me he seemed to know less about the unit than I did. He indicated that he would pass the report to engineering. The set point continued to creep up all night randomly. The following day I left the house for 6 hours and returned to a hours that was 94 degrees. Another call to the support only resulted in “I’ll take a report of it”. I noticed that this unit is NOT listed or tested bu UL or any other agency. I am a HVAC contractor and I feel that this company and product should NOT be on the market considering the lack of concern to a defect that could result in a fire. The product is registered with the manufacturer and they have not contacted me in over 5 days.

The product, in the report: Thermostat

Subject: Thermostat Fire Product: Emerson SenSi # 1F86U-42WF

On July 17, 2015 we experienced a fire coming out of our thermostat. Luckily, we were home to immediately extinguish it. That day we called the SenSi representative. She took our information and forwarded our information to their engineer staff. We received a phone call the next day from their engineer who requested some technical date and pictures. We sent them that information. They said to keep any clean-up invoices. In an email to us they may have a person to look at our damage on Monday July 20 (if they have one in our area).

On July 19, 2015 We feel it is our obligation to inform safeproducts.gov of our incident.
