The product, in the report: Wi-Fi Thermostat
Caller stated that the thermostat operates off wi-fi which causes the furnace to turn on when not needed. (2/20/24) He stated that the retailer replaced it after it malfunctioned several times, he stated that even when set to cool, it turned on the furnace. (4/2025) Caller stated that the retailer informed him that the control panel needed to be replaced after replacing the unit. The control panel was replaced but it didn’t resolve the issue. Caller stated that they were not at home when the furnace heated the home for 5 hours to 110 degrees after it was set to cool. If they had not returned when they did, it could have cause a house fire. He stated that they had to replace their prescription drugs due to the incident. Caller stated that he had to turn off the power source to shut the thermostat off. He recently had the thermostat removed and replaced it with a mechanical one. The manufacturer was not contacted as yet. Caller feels that this thermostat is a fire hazard and should be reported.
UPDATED ON 11/18/2025: [These pics show only two of dozens of days when our nest thermostat overheated our home running the furnace nonstop way over the set temperature. This would happen even when we had it set to cool in the summer. The only way we could shut the overheating furnace off every time was to turn off the power switch to the furnace on the wall. On 9-14-2025 the thermostat had the furnace run nonstop while we were gone for 6 hours, to a temperature of 110 degrees F in our upper level, 96 degrees in our lower level. This happened when we had the thermostat set to cool to 72 degrees. This happened after we had our 4 year old furnace checked and replaced control board by a licensed professional.]

The product, in the report: nest home thermostat. remote control of climate over Internet.
Thermostat stopped working.. It read 82 degrees whnd the house was 71. I realized this temperature was because the thermostat was warm to the touch.
My error message was NOT CONNECTED. It was referring to wi-fi. I was 150 miles away and felt helpless.
