The product, in the report: The product is a thermostat switch intended for residential exhaust fans. It has a steel enclosure, 5.6”L x 3.2”W x 1.8”H, painted gray, and weighs about 8 oz.

This product is a thermostatic switch intended for residential exhaust fans. Before installing it, I tested the outlet of the product for correct internal wiring using a plug-in GFCI tester (Intertek 3080912). The tester indicated an open ground. Being a competent electrician, I removed the cover of the product to repair the fault. Upon further examination, I discovered two other serious design flaws: The hot and neutral wires are reversed at the product’s outlet, and worse, the internal relay switches the neutral instead of the hot. This means that the neural of the receptacle is hot continuously, regardless of the state of the relay. So a ground fault in any device plugged into this product will not trip a breaker as safety ground is supposed to do, but instead will cause the frame of the device and any metal it’s in contact with to be hot. This presents a shock and fire hazard.
