No one hurt Made Nov 16, 2021, sent to the company Dec 16, 2021, published by CPSC Jan 3, 2022
The product, in the report: Hunter Programmable thermostat Model 44100
The problem occurred between 10/27/2021 – 10/29/2021. It was programmed to go to 68 degrees at night and 72 degrees during the day.
The consumer picked up his mother and when they returned approximately 48 hours later, the house was extremely hot. However, the thermostat was still showing that it was set to 72 degrees. Another thermometer in the house, showed a temperature of 102 degrees. When the consumer turned the thermostat off, it was still causing heat to be dispersed in the house.
The consumer removed the thermostat from the wall and the heat stopped. The product has a base plate on the wall and the thermostat connects to that base plate.
He replaced the thermostat with new one and used a different brand. It worked fine, so the problem was with the defective thermostat.
The consumer called the firm and their automated system advised to press 2 if the product is more than 3 years old. When he pressed that number in their phone system, a message came on, indicating that they are not able to support anything product more than 3 years old and it advised him to go to the website for trouble shooting tips.
The consumer has the thermostat, if CPSC is interested in seeing it. He suspects that the circuit board shorted, where the electrical leads are located.
