No one hurt Made Dec 2, 2015, sent to the company Dec 10, 2015, published by CPSC Jan 5, 2016
The product, in the report: Cadet C2002 wall thermostat
My husband and I were watching television when we heard a pop, saw a flash of light, and got up to discover a nearby Cadet thermostat C2002 literally burst into flames. It had either a mechanical or solid state relay that literally melted. We were so incredibly fortunate to be there when this happened. Now we are replacing all of the Cadet thermostats in the house. What an incredible fire hazard these old thermostats pose. They should be recalled.

The product, in the report: Cadet electric wall thermostat model number C2002
Woke up early this morning (11/30/15) to the smell of burning plastic. Our Cadet C2002 thermostat had burn marks all over it, and the paint on the wall below it had started melting. Removed the cover of the thermostat and saw that the inside was completely melted and burned. Shut off power, removed thermostat from wall and saw that some of the wiring inside the housing had started to also burn. Disconnected and removed thermostat completely from wall. Thankfully the fire had gone out before spreading inside the wall.

The product, in the report: Cadet Thermostat model C2002
On the morning of 9/19/15 I turned on Cadet model C2002 thermostat to 64 degrees. 5 minutes later the smoke detector alarm went off, and we found the heater up in flames and starting to bubble the wall paint. Doused with water and fire extinguisher. Removed charred thermostat and removed another same model thermostat to find that it had what looked like the beginning of smoke marks (black soot) on top of the thermostat. Removed it and had all 11 of the Cadet thermostats replaced irregardless of model the next day. Cost $400.00
