  1. No one hurt

Made Jan 29, 2026, sent to the company Feb 24, 2026, published by CPSC Mar 10, 2026

The product, in the report: Aube TH111GFCI-NP (Aube is now part of Honeywell). Beige thermostat.

Woke up to a strong smell of smoke and/or burning electrical smell. After searching found that the Aube TH111GFCI-NP installed in our master bathroom was overheating, unresponsive, and a small amount of smoke was coming out of the top of the thermostat, which was very hot. Turned off dedicated circuit breaker to this and the problem subsided - uninstalled unit and capped wires. At the time this occurred, the thermostat had been off for many months. When I entered the master bathroom, I noted that the floor was hot so the unit was sending current to the floor (despite being off). No damage or issues to the wiring in the box behind the unit - the issue was within the thermostat itself.
