Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

    1) I smelled gas coming out of the fireplace while the fireplace was off. 2) The fireplace is a Lennox Hearth Product ELVD-35NM. 3) I called the gas company and they came out. The verified that gas is coming out of the fireplace while is it off / in the pilot position. 4) I went to your website and saw that this fireplace has a recall for this exact issue: https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/2013/lennox-hearth-products-recalls-fireplaces 5) However, when I called Lennox, they said that my serial number did not qualify under the recall. 6) My serial number is 6507K78605. 7) I am certain that this is the same issue as what is described in the recall, however Lennox is getting away with not replacing / servicing all of these units due to the limited number of serial numbers under the recall.

The product, in the report: Lennox/Superior unvented see-through Natural Gas Fireplace model VFPF-CMN2, P/N 903571, Rev F 03/2005

ACE hardware and Hearth of Glen Burnie/Pasadena, MD supplied and installed two see-through (double-sided) unvented Natural Gas Fireplaces manufactured by SUPERIOR (now part of Lennox). These were installed back in 2005. Since then we have been working with ACE Hardware to resolve the issues with no results. ACE has worked closely with Superior and Lennox to resolve the problem and have done everything the manufacturer recommended. The problems persist and that means that we have not been able to use the fireplaces at all. The problem is that as soon we light the fireplace the fire alarm triggers and the house is filled with harmful unpleasant odor. The windows must be opened to let the air get out and then after a long while the fire alarm stops but the odor lingers on. We have come to a point that the manufacturer should either replace these units with alternate that works or refund the money allowing us to investigate alternatives. Their continued presence is a hazard in that fire alarm is triggered and harmful odor is inhaled.

The product, in the report: LENNOX natural gas or propane Lennox and Superior brand fireplaces Model: MPD40RPM SN: 6412G70248 Propane FIreplace

This is in connection with your Lennox Recall: Recall date: JULY 25, 2013 Recall number: 13-744

We recently had an issue with trying to light our pilot and flames started shooting out underneath the pilot assembly. We researched and found the model was recalled. In calling Lennox, they stated that there was nothing wrong with the connection to the pilot, however, the recall states: “Haazard: Defective fireplace gas connectors can leak, posing a fire hazard.”.

Lennox and their affiliates have been terrible to deal with. Their “affiliates” are requiring that we pay $150 up front for them to come out as they all state that’s not part of the recall. Why would gas leak from a connection and flame up not be part of the “Gas Connector” listed in the recall. The fireplace is only 2 years old.

I do not think we are the only consumer that has had this issue--it’s most likely Lennox and their partners bully us into thinking it’s not part of the recall when obviously GAS IS LEAKING FROM A FAULTY GAS CONNECTOR AND IT’S FLAMING UP.

The product, in the report: Gas Direct Vent Fireplace Manufacturer phone number: 800-655-2008 800 9 lennox Manufacturer date code: Lennox Heath Products

The fireplace came with the house the consumer purchased in 2006. The house was built in 2006.

The consumer stated that they have a wall switch that turns on the fireplace unit. The consumer turned on the wall switch and the fireplace exploded about five seconds later.

The consumer stated that the explosion was felt up to about 1/4 mile away.

The explosion blew the upper and lower vent. The consumer stated that it blew the content of the fireplace unit into the living room floor. The consumer stated that the glass of the fireplace is still intact but the lower hinges bent out of shape. This caused the door to swing open when the explosion occurred.

The consumer stated that the pilot light was on when the incident happened. The consumer called the fire department. They shut off the gas line.

The consumer had the fireplace serviced on 11/3/14. The consumer stated that sometimes when they turned on the fireplace, it did not come on right away. The service tech from Gede (DE) cleaned the fireplace unit. The service tech did not see anything else wrong with the unit.

The consumer stated that she contacted the manf. They informed her to call the dealer (Gedy). The consumer has tried to call the dealer and get what service was conducted on their fireplace before the explosion occurred.

The consumer is trying to communicate with the manf about the incident but they are not being cooperative about it.

The consumer has had various people look into a replacing the fireplace. They all have provided different ways. The consumer wants to address the cause of the incident so it does not happen again with the new unit.

The consumer’s unit is not included in recall #13-744.
