The product, in the report: V-Bar tire chains
I purchased a set of brand new Quadboss V-bar snow chains for my ATV (all-Terrain Vehicle)/Side-by-Side(SXS) tires. Part number: 563555. These tire chains were purchased through Amazon.com via a 3rd party vendor. In receiving the product the chains came in a black plastic storage box, and looked to be brand new. The label on the outside of the box included a picture of the chains mounted to an ATV tire, and showed a yellow assembly in the middle of the chain set on the tire, also known as a tensioner. The tensioner serves the purpose to keep the chain tight to the tire so that it doesn’t come off and cause property damage or bodily injury to the operator or bystanders as spinning tires could throw the chain a great distance, or have it flail around like a whip causing grievous injury. No mounting/assembly instructions were included in the box with these tire chains, nor was the pictured tensioner on the label of the box included in the box. I found it very odd that a dangerous product as these would not have instructions on how to safely attach them to a tire. A typo/mis-spelling on the label of the box is what originally caused me to reach out to the manufacturer, as my SXS tire size was not shown. I reached out to the manufacturer Quadboss on the evening of 12/5/2018 via email. At 11:54 AM on 12/6/2018 I received an email from [REDACTED], with Quadboss Technical Support. Below is the content of my email exchange with [REDACTED]. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ From: [REDACTED] Date: Wed, Dec 5, 2018 at 6:22 PM Subject: Question on Vbar chain set To: <QuadBoss@quadboss.com>
Will you (sic) chain set #563555 fit on tire size 25-10-12?
Your website doesn’t list a chain option for that tire size.

Thank you for contacting QuadBoss Products. Yes, P/N 563555 would be the best option for your tire size. Thank you,

[REDACTED],
Thank you for the reply and fitment advice.
When I received the box with the 563555 in the mail yesterday there was no tensioner or instructions in the box. Can you advise what should be in the box leaving the factory?
From: [REDACTED] Date: Thu, Dec 6, 2018 at 2:25 PM Subject: RE: FW: Question on Vbar chain set To: [REDACTED]
[REDACTED], In the box is tire chains only x2 pcs. Tensioners are sold separately (P/N 563558). Thanks,

So you don’t even include mounting/installation instructions?
I did not hear back from [REDACTED] in a timely manner about their lack of installation instructions, and I then went to their website to look for the product listing. On the product listing, the tire chain is shown installed on an ATV tire with no tensioner on the chain set, and no reminder or warning near the photo to the potential purchaser is provided to inform them that tensioners are required for safe operation with these chains, and that they have to be purchased separately. Furthermore, there are no links or product literature available on how to safely mount this chain set to an ATV tire. I have saved screenshots of these product pages, and can provide them upon request.
I find this to be negligence to sell such a dangerous product with complete lack of assembly/installation instructions, and to sell such a product without the minimum required accessories like a chain tensioner is proof of further negligence. Especially on ATV/SXS products that are frequently operated by adolescents under the age of 18 who may not understand fully the dangers of a tire chain and how to properly secure it.
I request the Consumer Safety Product Commission take action against this company Quadboss to ensure that no consumer or bystander be injured by this product. The product should at a minimum have mounting/installation instructions on the manufacturer’s recommended method to install the chain set to ensure safe operation.
