The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. Seen by a doctor or nurse

Made Sep 9, 2019, sent to the company Sep 26, 2019, published by CPSC Oct 10, 2019

The product, in the report: 2016 Honda Recon

I’ve ridden Honda Recon ATV’s for over 20 years. My latest vehicle is a 2017 Recon. It has a lever to depress to go into reverse. The previous models had a button to push. In March of this year, my finger got caught under the lever and it sliced me. This was under pretty normal operating conditions. Several days ago the same thing happened. I contacted Honda both times, and they are unresponsive.

The reverse lever has a relatively sharp metal edge that contacts the metal brake lever. It’s so sharp that it has bitten a crevice into the brake lever. I can’t imagine I’m the only person with this issue. I have photos if there’s a place later in this report to include them.

The product, in the report: ATV

(1/2014) The consumer was loading the ATV on his pickup. The ATV went on full throttle. The consumer hit the brakes but there was not enough time to react. The ATV hit the back of the truck.

(12/4/2016) The same thing happened again. The consumer stated he was backing up when the ATV picked up speed. The consumer tried to break to stop. There was not enough breaking power to stop the engine. The consumer had to turn the vehicle to keep from going over an embankment. When he turned the ATV, the vehicle flipped over. The consumer was thrown to the side and the ATV rolled over and stopped on its side and rolled on the top of the consumer’s leg.

The consumer went to the doctor the next day. The consumer was bruised on his right butt cheek, left knee and his upper back.

The product, in the report: 2006 Honda Rubicon 500 ATV

I rode the 2006 Honda Rubicon 500 for less than 30 minutes when I smelled something burning and looked down to see flames coming up between my legs. I attempted to extenquish the flames but could not put the fire out. I then called 911 who in turn dispatched the local fire department. When the fire truck got to the fire it had engulfed the ATV and it was a total loss.
