  1. No one hurt

Made Sep 29, 2026, sent to the company Oct 6, 2026, published by CPSC Oct 21, 2026

The product, in the report: CFMOTO CFORCE 800 XC ATV BLUE in color

I am reporting a safety incident involving my 2021 CFMOTO CFORCE 800 XC ATV, malufactured in April 2021, VIN # [REDACTED]. I purhcased the ATV from FUN ATV in Columbus, MS, in July 2021. While operating the ATV, the steering suddenly locked up. I was fortunate that I was traveling on a straight path and avoided an accident or injury. The incident created a risk of a crash because steering control was lost while the ATV was moving. After the incident I learned of CFMOTO’s recall 21-742 concerning 2021 CFORCE 800 XC ATVs. The CPSC recall identifies the electronic power steering (EPS) as capable of malfunctioning and causing the rider to lose control of the vehicle. I contacted FUN ATV and was told that my ATV was not covered by the recall and that I did not have an extened warranty. Because of the steering failure, I took the ATV to [REDACTED] in Tishomingo, MS. [REDACTED] contacted CFMOTO twice because they believed the problem was safety-related and should potentially be covered. CFMOTO declined coverage. [REDACTED] inspected the ATV and determined that the EPS unit itself had failed. The dealership quoted $1,821.67 for parts and labor to repair the ATV, and I approved the repair (I retained the failed part). I understand that my April 2021 manufacture date may place my ATV outside the production range of the existing CFMOTO safety bulletins. However, I am requesting that CPSC reveiw this incident to determine whether later-produced 2021 CFORCE 800 XC ATVs may experience the same or related EPS failures. I am asking CPSC to consider the actual loss-of-steering-control event, the dealership’s diagnosis of an EPS-unit failure, and the relationship to the EPS hazard descrided in CFMOTO Recall 21-742. Np injury occurred, but the steering failure created a significant risk of injury.

The product, in the report: 2015 ATV

(02/12/2024) The consumer took the ATV out for a five-minute ride. When he was backing the ATV into the garage, he saw flames near the shifter. He put the ATV in drive to move it so that his house would not catch on fire. He tried to put the fire out but had to call the fire department. The consumer contacted the firm and was advised to get it to the dealership.

The consumer found out about a recall on the model after the incident, but his model 2015 year is not included. The consumer stated that the issue with his ATV is the same as the hazard mentioned for the 2016-2018 models that were recalled.

UPDATED ON 4/1/2024: [I took atv out for short ride in my yard when I backed into my garage I could smell fuel and saw flames shoot out by shifter quickly drove back out called fire dept.report below I bought this new had service with less than 5 mi. Had just over 300mi.total have contacted dealer and manufacturer with no resolve I will provide picture of atv as well ]

UPDATED ON 4/15/2024: [I read the answer cf moto gave what good is a high quality product if it has a fire one they don’t want to deal with I spent $300 total getting to dealer ship through advice from customer service at cf moto it sat there for nearly 2 mo. They did nothing to determine why it burned I still think it’s related to the recall on newer models.

I said before I don’t have insurance on it any more I asked them to back up their high quality product and so far they refused to do so without even analyzing why it burned or if it was connected to the recall which is why I sent to dealership in the first place customer service said they had a team that could determine that but chose not to use them, [REDACTED] in service at the dealership said he was not qualified to determine how it happened now I’m stuck with a burned atv i would think if it’s such a high quality product they would want to know how this happened I would like to know this is not supposed to happen sincerely very dis satisfied customer ps report attached has inaccurate info the fire was on the left near shifter as was stated in the original report ]

The product, in the report: All Terrain Vehicle

Fall-2022: The ATV lost steering, when he rode it at different times and over a 3-week period, the problem occurred off and on. Over time, the issue worse and he stopped using the ATV all-together. No injuries.

NOTE: The problem occurred at various speeds, but he also noticed that when he gave the ATV throttle, he’d lose control of the steering. However, the steering control would usually return. Since it did not happen all the time, he cannot point to that exact reason.

His problem is similar to the issue in CPSC Recall: 21-742.

(approx. 4/15/2023): The consumer saw CPSC Recall# 21-742 and called the firm. Their rep. (name unavailable) told him that his model was not included and they could not assist him with repairs.

The ATV only has 500 miles on it and 99% of the use was on the residential dirt roads that are near the consumer’s home.

The product, in the report: CFMOTO 500cc, single seat ATV Model VIN: [REDACTED]

6/10/2021: The consumer and his grandson were riding the ATV, when the throttle became stuck. The ATV took off, when the consumer tapped the gas. They ended up crashing into some large propane tanks. The consumer grabbed his grandson and jumped off the ATV, while it was moving. The grandson sustained some black and blue marks to his legs, but he’s okay. The 60 year old consumer’s leg and groin area is extremely sore and it he doesn’t feel better by 6/12/2021, he will go to the ER.

The throttle got stuck on this vehicle approximately 3 – 4 times, prior to this incident.

The consumer’s girlfriend found several CPSC Recalls on this manufacturer’s brand of ATV’s. Therefore, the consumer called a local dealer ([REDACTED]) and their rep. (name unknown) said he did not find any warranty information on this specific ATV, but if he could help the consumer in any way, he would.

There was a CPSC Recall# 19-711, for a throttle issue, but it is unknown if the consumer’s vehicle is included in that recall.

The ATV was purchased approximately 18 -24 months ago and it only had approximately 35 hours of use on it at the time, but appeared to be in nearly new condition. The previous owner sold it to extremely cheap, because he ran over his dog with it. The consumer believes that the throttle issue, may have been a factor in the previous owner’s incident, but is not sure.

It would be nice if the retailer got in touch with me [REDACTED]. I really want to have the throttle fixed and anything else that broke fixed also. Really do not want anyone else get hurt because of this issue. Never, ever got a recall on the throttle- ATV was registered by my self. Thank you.
