On July 3rd, we purchased five (5) brand-new Kayo ATVs from the Ride North dealership in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula for our family to use. Within just 10 days of purchase, all five vehicles suffered severe, systemic, and life-threatening mechanical and structural failures. The catastrophic failures across these 5 new units include: Hospitalization due to Toxic Fumes: One 300cc engine failed and began emitting thick, overwhelming, toxic exhaust fumes. My daughter, who was riding behind the unit, suffered severe fume inhalation and required emergency medical treatment at the hospital. Critical Structural Failures: Structural bolts completely fell out of the rear ends and the steering tie rods on multiple units while they were actively being driven, creating an immediate crash hazard. Immediate Engine Blowout: One of the 300cc units suffered a total engine blowout on Day 2 of ownership. The dealership has possessed this vehicle ever since July 5th, meaning we are being forced to pay financing on a machine we never got to use. Exhaust Aerator Failure: The exhaust aerator completely fell out of one of the 300cc units during operation. Systemic 125cc Defects: The starter on a 125cc unit completely failed. Additionally, these automatic 125cc units constantly stall, sputter, and the Reverse-Neutral-Forward (RNF) indicator safety lights have broken entirely. The manufacturer, Kayo USA, has formally denied our request to unwind the sales and financing, claiming these severe safety hazards and blown engines are merely “ordinary, repairable conditions.” The dealership (Ride North) claims they cannot refund our money without the manufacturer’s approval. We are being forced to pay monthly financing on five inherently dangerous, defective vehicles that we cannot safely use. We are requesting immediate state and federal intervention to force Kayo USA and Ride North to cancel the financing agreements, buy back these defective products, and protect other families from these severe safety hazards.
