The product, in the report: 2018 CAN AM Outlander
On 23 May 2019, my husband did a pre inspection of our 2018 Can Am Outlander prior to going to work on our Fire Break roads, our Can Am was purchased new from a dealer in Panama City Florida in September 2018 and had approximately 25 hrs on it. He drove from our house about 300 yards, stopped turned the unit off weed rated some brush on the fire break road. He then got back on the 4 wheeler and started up the road, his legs were getting warm, he looked down and saw fire under the gas tank (first sign of any problem) ) He then pulled the seat and tried to put out the fire, using water, sand, dirt anything he could get. Jumped back because the flames were too intense Ran about 10 feet and then the gas tank exploded He ran to the house got the ABC Fire extinguisher jumped in his truck went back and tried to extinguish fire. The unit was already engulfed in flames. The woods, brush started on fire but, he called 911 they came out put out brush fire nothing was left of the Can Am Outlander We paid, cash for the 4 wheeler. We contacted the BRP to let them know what happened however they said, our unit wasn’t one of the ones under the recall we weren’t aware they even had a recall on other units until after this indecent My husband was an aircraft mechanic for the military for 22 yes. so he always does pre inspections and didn’t smell any gas. They are now saying there isn’t enough of the unit left to add to the recall. It did take our volunteer fire department 45min to put the fire out. My husband was very lucky, our concern is the next person may not be aware or even know what to do or panic, costing them there lives. I have pictures but I wasn’t able to upload them.
