Not said Made Jul 13, 2015, sent to the company Jul 21, 2015, published by CPSC Aug 11, 2015
The product, in the report: Otteroo floating device for babies 8 weeks or older. Looks like an inner tube that goes around the neck.
I ordered the Otteroo baby floater, and filled it up with air. I noticed a hissing sound of air leaking through the seams. This is very dangerous, as it deflated in a matter of seconds. What if my baby were in the water and then it started leaking? We were supposed to go into the pool, but thank goodness the leak happened before we went in.

No one hurt Made Jul 7, 2015, sent to the company Jul 15, 2015, published by CPSC Aug 6, 2015
The product, in the report: Otteroo baby neck floatie. It is a blue inflatable neck floatie purchased in 2015
I purchased a neck flotation device for my baby called the “Otteroo” in 2015 and started using it on my baby around May 2015. She’s only used this device around 6 times or so, so it is by no means ‘worn’. The last time we used it, I had trouble getting her chin to stay above the chin rest. Once I managed to get her chin on top of the chin rest, I placed her in the bathtub for a swim. About ten minutes into her swim, her lower jaw/chin was completed underneath the chin rest! and she was about the drink bathwater or drown, so I promptly pulled her out of the tub. Once I pulled her out of the tub, I noticed that the Otteroo was deflated a bit. So I submerged the Otteroo under water to check for air leaks and sure enough there was an air leak along the seams near the front left side of the device. This is the 2015 supposedly stronger version, not the recently recalled 2014 version. Not only did it leak air, my baby’s very normal sized/looking chin could not stay on top of the chin rest, which is very dangerous and her chin used to be able to stay on top of it when she was younger. She started using it at 2 months and she is now 4 months old. Her chin stayed on top of it fine when she was younger, but now that she likes to bite and chew on things, the chin rest can no longer hold up her chin.

The product, in the report: Baby float ring that attaches around the neck, with chin placed in recessed area. Described as for infants 8 weeks and up
I have received 2 separate defective Otteroo baby floats. otteroo.com for product
First otteroo was preordered months before finally arriving due to delays in production in China. I allowed my daughter to use the floaty once in the bathtub, after following the instructions included for proper inflation and testing for air leaks as recommended. After that first use, the floaty deflated considerably, and on our second use, there was a clear air leak visible when held underwater. At this point, I contacted otteroo to report the issue and request a refund. They did refund my money, and insisted on sending me a replacement at no charge. Once I received the second otteroo, we used it again in the bathtub. Again, the first use was fine and we did not find any air leaks. Before the second use (in the tub) I tested it for leaks by holding it underwater. Again, no leaks were present. During the second use, a faint whistling sound started - air was leaking from the otteroo. If I had glanced away for a second, or not heard the whistling, my daughter could have been seriously injured or even died from this defect.

No one hurt Made Jul 23, 2014, sent to the company Aug 1, 2014, published by CPSC Sep 9, 2014
The product, in the report: Otteroo, flotation device for infants/toddlers
I am writing to report that my 11 week old, 11lb, infant slipped through the otteroo the first time we used it last week. The packaging does not give nearly enough information regarding usage safety. I followed the instructions to the “t” and this accident still occurred. Luckily my baby was only under water for 2-3 seconds, but this could have been so much worse. We were so frightened and she wasn’t breathing for at least 5-6 seconds after I rescued her. I called our pediatrician who urged us to take her to the ER for a chest X-ray. They told us to never use the otteroo again... They don’t believe it is safe.
After the accident occurred and my baby was declared ‘okay’, I decided to look on otteroo’s web site for further info regarding this product I received as a gift. I was very surprised to see many more safety usage instructions that were not listed on the product nor the product’s packaging. One thing I learned online is the fill height of the tub, which instructs to fill tub with at least 2feet of water, and to fill so the baby’s feet touch and baby is vertical. This is imperative information!!! Most tubs will overflow at 2 feet of water. I never fill my children’s bath water with more than 10-12 inches of water and would only do so if stated on instructions.
This is very concerning to me and there should be a booklet/pamphlet with all instructions, FAQs, and safety precautions included in the package with the product. Everything that is online needs to be included in this package. I will never recommend this product as it could have killed my infant had I not been right there responding as quickly as I did. We spent an evening in the ER, spent $100, and spent at least two days worrying that she may have inhaled water into her lungs, watching for signs of pneumonia. This is not okay. No product for infants should ever result in this sort of scare. I don’t know if she slipped through because she was only floating in 12 inches of water or because you have a defective product or that usage should be based on head circumference??
