The product, in the report: Weider XRS 20 Adjustable Bench with Olympic Squat Rack and Preacher Pad, 610 lb. Silver in color. Weight Limit, Purchased from Walmart

I was using the Weider XRS 20 Adjustable Bench with Olympic Squat Rack and Preacher Pad. There is a design flaw with the Backrest Post. The bottom of it is rounded causing the bench to be wobbly. Ultimately, the post fell out of the support slot while lifting weights, causing me to fall backward and almost choking me.

The product, in the report: Home Gym Equipment It has two weight stacks and two seats as well it can be used to do the exercises vin the guide. in a standing position

While using Model WESY86304 Weider Home Gym to do “Lat Pull Downs” in accordance with the Exercise Guide provided with the equipment the rear seat frame , part #16 , broke away from the bracket attaching it to the equipment. It appears the break occurred at the weld . I contacted ICON of Canada Inc. and they referred the matter to ICON Health and Fitness, Inc. in Logan Utah, 84321. I was fortunate to only suffer bruising with the sudden collapse of the seat as the sudden drop while exercising could easily have resulted in very serious and permanent injury. I conveyed the information to ICON Canada so that they would be aware of the possible design flaw that could injure other users. Their approach was to send a “technician “ who was not an engineer , metallurgist or welding expert to examine the equipment and conclude “the machine is in good condition and has no structural weakness”. Yet the weld was broken and the seat frame no longer attached to the bracket that mechanically attaches that seat to the equipment. ICON then began a process from the Canadian and USA offices to get me to sign a “waiver” and they would provide a replacement part of some type as the original part is no longer available . In researching the product , in my opinion , the seat design being a cantilever without support on the extremities is likely not strong enough for the designed purpose. All of ICON’s current home gyms now have a seat frame that is supported at both ends. The Weider 8630 Home Gym , assembled and maintained as per instructions from the manufacturer has the potential to cause very serious injury to a user when the cantilevered seat /leg lift attachment is being used to perform exercises in accordance with the guide provided. In my attempt to prevent injury to others I was met with unsupportable statements from ICON on the design and manufacture of their product and in the end an over zealous attempt to get me to sign a release.

The product, in the report: Weider X-Factor+, model no. WEBE2910.0 resistance fitness equipment

This report concerns the Weider X-Factor+, model no. WEBE2910.0 fitness equipment produced by ICON Heath & Fitness. On two occassions the right side 45lbs resistance cord has broken away from the handle and struck me in the face or arm causing injury. The first time was on April 20, 2011 when I was during tricep presses facing the equipment. The right side 45lbs cord broke loose from the handle when I was pressing it downwards . The force of the recoil caused a small nick on my face and knocked my glasses from my face.I wsa quite fortunate that only the elastic portion had only come loose causing more shock than injury. The cord wsa eventually replaced directly by ICON after some argument concerning its warranty considering the equipment was only purchased on 12.27.2010 and it was less than four months old. The second occurrance happened on 7.5.2011 when the replacement 45 lbs cord broke loose from the handle while during chest presses. This time I was facing away from the equipment, leaning slightly forward presing downwards when the cord broke loose. I felt a sharp pain in my left arm and noticed immediate swelling from the injury. I looked at the cord and noticed that this time there was some type of metal ring at the end of the cord which had caused the injury. I also found the metal retension pin which had apparently bent and come loose from the hole in the handle therefore causing the card to come loose. I went immediately to Solantic Heath Care where I was treated for a 15 inch welt/ on the upper portion on my arm. The injury was treated and I had limited use of my arm for over a week.
