On Friday I assembled a Sunny Health & Fitness Compact Folding Magnetic Rowing Machine SF-RW5801. I noticed a crack in the welding of a structural piece that is critical to holding the folding sliding seat mechanism (the slide rail) upright. The welded piece was so misaligned that I was unable to screw the slide rail and secure it. I also found the welding unstable because I could bend the slide rail just to screw in the locking screw. If the welding gives away, it entire slide rail can slam into anyone around it. Adults may get away with a fracture, but this would very likely cause fatalities if it involves a toddler. The same goes for pets in the house.

I bought an exercise bike from Amazon (from the Sunny Health and Fitness company based in California. This is the bike (https://www.amazon.com/Sunny-Health-Fitness-SF-B1002-Cycling/dp/B00467H5YW/ref=asc_df_B00467H5YW/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=167126942833&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=6745425051090476001&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9032735&hvtargid=pla-307680638110&psc=1) They resistance pad which is listed as “leather” in their advertisements, began to smell during use so we had it tested. Turns out the leather pad was actually composed primarily (85-90%) of friable Asbestos.
We contacted Amazon in the hopes that they would refund us and pull the bike down from their store, where it is listed as a “Top Seller” and “Amazon’s Choice.” They gave us a refund but after almost a year of fighting with them they refused to pull the product from their store and continue to sell it to this day. I have contacted several agencies in California where I live and where the company is located, but they have all claimed they don’t have jurisdiction over this type of safety issue. I still have the resistance pad in question as well as the test results from a Sacramento Testing company. I would hope that somehow you all can take action. I don’t have the resources to file a lawsuit myself and my wife is incredibly concerned that we would be exposing ourselves to litigation. I am having trouble living with the fact that everyday these INDOOR bikes are exposing people and their families to a known carcinogen. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
