No one hurt Made Jan 17, 2024, sent to the company Jan 23, 2024, published by CPSC Feb 6, 2024
The product, in the report: SKLZ Grip Strength Trainer, SKU #3401, adjustable from 20 to 90 lbs. resistance, size 4.5” X 6”, 0.55 lbs., 6 in. wide x 0.75 in. height x 4.5 in. length
I received a SKLZ Grip Strength Trainer as a Christmas gift in 2022 and have been using it on and off for a year. As I was using it yesterday, the steel spring which regulates the amount of force it takes to squeeze the device, failed catastrophically with one piece of metal shooting off like a rocket (I haven’t located this piece yet.) When I went onto their website to register a complaint/post a review, I saw that 7 of the 13 product reviews posted, were about the same problem ([REDACTED] ). My post is still “in moderation” and is pending. The first review reporting a failed spring was posted 4 years ago yet the product is still on the market.
I did not injure myself, nor anyone else, but there is a real possibility someone might have been injured had they been in the same room with me. The spring failed due to metal fatigue and the product is clearly unsafe and should be removed from the market until such time the product is redesigned or a stronger metal is chosen for the spring.
