The product, in the report: Prime Fitness Shorty Bench, they sell on short style bench, includes leg attachment for decline positions. The bench is black with green handles
I am reporting a potential safety issue with the Prime Fitness Shorty Adjustable Bench and its decline/ankle pad attachment. Myself and a friend of mine (not mentioned) flipped over while using it, about a week ago at approximately 45 degrees of decline.
This is concerning because Primes safety information appears inconsistent. The product page clearly advertises decline functionality and lists the back pad as adjustable up to 85 degrees, but there is no clear maximum safe decline angle on their webpage for the shorty bench or for the leg attachment, or anywhere disclosed before purchase. To complicate matters further the physical warning decal on my bench says not to use it past 30 degrees of decline (Placed under the product out of clear line of sight), however, Primes online manual (which they sent me and can be downloaded) appears to reference a 45-degree decline limit.
This creates a risk that customers may rely on the website or online manual and use the bench at an unsafe decline angle, especially while lifting weights where the adjustable part of the bench will not support them and instead flip over on-top of the user, flipping the user in the process, while potentially holding weights.
I notified Prime about the issue. As of now, I am not aware of any correction to the website, the online manual, the physical-warning discrepancy, or any notice to existing customers.
The potential harm is significant. When the bench tips or rolls backward while a user is declined, the user could fall head-first or backward into the floor, nearby steel equipment, a rack, wall, or other hard surfaces. This could cause head, neck, back, shoulder, wrist, or arm injuries, including a serious head injury. The risk may be greater because this type of bench is commonly used near (and designed to work with) racks, trainers, dumbbells, plates, or other steel gym equipment, and users may also be holding weights while in the declined position.
I am requesting that this be reviewed as a potential product safety omission and warning-label issue.
