The product, in the report: Precor Squat machine, Model DPL0624
A squat machine, Precor Model DPL0624, contains a design and/or manufacturing defect that causes the Heim joint at the connection to the shoulder pad to fail. The Heim joint on this particular piece of equipment failed while in use within two weeks of its installation at the Powerhouse Gym in Novi, Michigan. The General Manager is [REDACTED]. This is the second failure of the Precor squat machine of which I am aware. The other incident occurred over the summer and resulted in a user suffering a fractured elbow. Given that these incidents have occurred in less than one year of use, I am sure there are hundreds of warranty claims for the same defect/failure mode in Precor’s records. The machine should be recalled and, at a minimum, a large washer installed to prevent the Heim joint failure from causing the attaching rod to separate from the shoulder support.
