The product, in the report: 7’ “wave dazzler” jump rope. The rubber tubing for the rope is blue and contains water with glitter. The handles are pink conical spirals with a sparkles silver decal.

My daughter was jumping rope when the handle simply slipped out of her hand. The sharp edges on the conical handle sliced the skin off her finger.

(3/20/2015) Maui Toys, Inc. a division of JAKKS Pacific: With reference to the attached Report ID 20150225-CF745-2147435051 dated February 25, 2015, and sent to Maui Toys, Inc. on March 9, 2015, we were concerned to learn about this incident involving its Wave Dazzler Jump Rope product. Incidents we learn of are thoroughly investigated and addressed with care, as the safety of our consumers and their children is our utmost priority.
Independent laboratory testing confirmed that this product and packaging a) conformed to applicable standards, b) are marked clearly with suitable warnings, instructions and the appropriate age grading, and c) were reviewed, tested and assessed for use by children ages 6 and older. With respect to this incident, the consumer stated that her daughter was jumping rope when the product slipped out of her hand, resulting in a minor cut. Fortunately, the cut did not require medical attention and the child is doing well. Because safety is paramount to us, we investigate all incidents and, if appropriate, incorporate any needed changes into future products or instructions. We appreciate the consumer providing us with the details of the incident to help us understand what occurred and to address her concerns. While normally we would ask the consumer to return the product, unfortunately she had returned it to the retailer already. Regardless, we are sending her replacement product and she expressed that she is pleased with this resolution. We appreciate all consumer feedback, as Maui Toys is committed to continuous product improvement as part of making high quality products.
