The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. Hurt, no treatment

The product, in the report: Balance ball, typically used in yoga or as a chair.

My employer purchased a Gaiam Total Body Balance Ball Kit, 55cm, for my use in February, 2013. They made the purchase as I have a documented medical problem that causes back stiffness. I used the ball with a base designed for balance balls. Both items are linked below.

The ball recently burst without warning, throwing me to the floor and causing minor bruises. The ball separated cleanly into two halves. I have mailed the ball back to the manufacturer to request a refund, but I took two pictures of the damaged ball before doing so. You can email me at [REDACTED] to request the photos.

The ball’s literature states a maximum weight of 300lbs, and I weigh 120lbs. The literature also does not forbid use as a chair. Looking at Amazon’s reviews, at the time of this email, 5 users complained that their balls burst, and 2 users had balls arrive with existing tears. Please investigate this issue. Thank you.
