No one hurt Made Mar 12, 2026, sent to the company Mar 30, 2026, published by CPSC Apr 13, 2026
The product, in the report: Bowflex T6 Treadmill
The treadmill has a serious electrical safety issue. The power plug and power inlet become extremely hot during use. The plug has melted multiple times, and the outlet shows burn marks. There is a strong burning smell while operating. The treadmill shuts off after about one minute of running. This presents a significant fire hazard and risk of electrical failure. The manufacturer refuses warranty support after bankruptcy.

No one hurt Made Feb 20, 2026, sent to the company Mar 18, 2026, published by CPSC Mar 11, 2026
The product, in the report: Brand: Bowflex (currently owned by Johnson Health Tech) Model: Max Trainer M3 Serial Number: 100580PRO20091775 Category: Exercise Equipment / Elliptical-Stepper Hybrid
1. What happened that made you want to report? During a standard cardiovascular workout, a factory-installed internal drive bolt (part of the upper drive pulley/crank assembly) suffered a catastrophic mechanical shear. The bolt snapped completely in half while the machine was in motion. This caused an immediate loss of resistance and structural instability, nearly causing a fall. Upon inspection, the bolt shows signs of metal fatigue/failure. The current brand owner, Johnson Health Tech, has been notified but has explicitly refused to acknowledge the safety hazard or provide a remedy.
2. What type of product(s) were being used? Brand: Bowflex (currently owned by Johnson Health Tech) Model: Max Trainer M3 Serial Number: 100580PRO20091775 Category: Exercise Equipment / Elliptical-Stepper Hybrid
3. Who was using the product(s)? A 55-year-old male. 4. How were the product(s) being used? The product was being used exactly as intended for a standard low-impact interval workout. The machine was placed on a level surface and operated within the manufacturer’s specified weight limits and speed recommendations.
5. Were there any injuries that happened or may have happened? While no physical injury occurred this time, a significant injury was narrowly avoided. A structural failure of a moving part while a user is at peak exertion creates an immediate risk of a high-impact fall, joint hyperextension, or blunt force trauma if the leg assembly becomes detached.
6. How did any injuries occur? N/A (Potential injury would result from the user losing balance or the machine’s moving arms/legs swinging wildly out of their guided path due to the sheared bolt no longer securing the drive mechanism).

No incident, no one hurt Made Jul 5, 2025, sent to the company Jul 9, 2025, published by CPSC Jul 23, 2025
The product, in the report: BowFlex SelectTech 552 Adjustable Dumbbells
I purchased a pair of BowFlex SelectTech 552 adjustable dumbbells for approximately $390 before April 23, 2024. While using the dumbbells for normal strength training exercises at home, I noticed the weight plates felt loose and unstable, which could have easily caused a serious injuryespecially when lifting overhead. I later learned that the product had been officially recalled due to this exact safety hazard, which has already caused multiple injuries to others, including concussions and broken bones. Thankfully, I was not physically injured, but I feel that I was placed at real risk of harm due to the poor safety of this product. When I filed a claim through the official recall process, I was only offered a $90 store credit voucher, despite paying $390 for the dumbbells. To make matters worse, I was told I would have to return the product just to receive this minimal compensation. I also learned that the original manufacturer, Nautilus Inc. (BowFlex), filed for bankruptcy in early 2024, and the assets were sold to Johnson Health Tech in a way that allowed them to profit from the BowFlex name without taking on any of the liability for these defective products. This feels incredibly unfair and deceptive. Consumers like me, who purchased in good faith, are being left behind with unsafe products and only offered a fraction of the value backif we return the productwhile the new owners wash their hands of responsibility. I am reporting this because I believe this is a clear case of corporate irresponsibility and consumer exploitation. The product is unsafe, the recall is insufficient, and the handling of the bankruptcy and asset sale feels sleazy and deeply unethical. I hope this report helps bring attention to the issue and leads to better remedies for affected customers.

Hurt, no treatment Made Nov 19, 2024, sent to the company Nov 25, 2024, published by CPSC Dec 10, 2024
The product, in the report: Bowflex max trainer m9
The main axle connecting the two legs of the machine to the frame snapped in half. This was while I was using it with no indication of upcoming failure. When it snapped they came off the rail causing me to fall off into the wall/floor. I hurt my ankle pretty bad as a result.
This was also on the side of the axle where bowflex replaced an arm not too long ago. I also called the manufacturer and when questioning the rep I was told it’s not a common issue but its not uncommon either. They have had other reports of this same/similar problem

No one hurt Made Jan 20, 2022, sent to the company Jan 25, 2022, published by CPSC Feb 8, 2022
The product, in the report: Bowflex T22 Treadmill
Purchased the T22 back in November, started using in December. I have noticed the treadmill auto accelerating , this last instance the treadmill went from 8.1 mph to 9mph. In looking at my data files I went from a 7:25 average pace to a 6:40 average pace. This is extremely dangerous, thankfully I was able to stay upright. I have contacted Bowflex multiple times but I have not had much luck in getting Bowflex to respond. This is extremely dangerous and not a safe device to use in this state.

The product, in the report: Bowflex C6 home exercise bike. Model C6 Product Overview Incredibly smooth, quiet ride Backlit LCD metric console Magnetic resistance with 100 micro-adjustable resistance levels Dual-sided pedals (SPD® clips | Toe Cages) Pair of 3 lb. dumbbells with easy-reach cradles Bluetooth enabled heart rate armband monitor https://www.bowflex.com/bikes/c6/100894.html?adID=DOSG2BSL01&pk_source=google&pk_medium=cpc&pk_campaign=&gclid=Cj0KCQjwpdqDBhCSARIsAEUJ0hO8BgcNCJFb0CQuuMxcNcfa1PFYNtyFtFQhfRMVm19QQ8wxE_4n9BQaAojjEALw_wcB
On 9/25/2020 I ordered a Bowflex C6 exercise bike. It did not arrive until 11/4/2020. I paid for professional installation. I used it approximately twice a week, taking a break around the holidays for a total of approximately 15 rides. On 1/10/21 the left pedal fell off mid ride. The company sent a replacement part, which arrived 1/19/21. On 3/11/21, the right pedal fell off mid ride. This time I did scrape my ankle when it fell off. I contacted the company again and they convinced me the bike would be safe and they would send a new pedal out right away. I insisted on professional installation and they offered to send both pedals and an installer. It is now 4/14/21 and I have yet to receive the replacement parts. This is unacceptable. Clearly this company has a major issue with its product and its supply chain. I demand you look into this as a potential recall product.

The product, in the report: Bowflex treadclimbr tc 100, black in color has to be plugged in
This product is a treadmill and an elliptical in one. I walk on it and have almost slipped several times. I thought it was the shoes I was wearing and have tried several new shoes and the piece of [redacted*] equipment keeps making me slip. It seems to only be on the left side. When I went to my Chiropractor I was talking to the girl that works there and she said she joined the gym, she told me that her mother has the same piece of equipment that I have and hers does the same thing. This could lead to series injuries. I have checked the website and do not see any recalls listed, but there needs to be. I love walking on the piece of equipment but I am afraid of falling.

The product, in the report: BowFlex BXT216 treadmill
Product was BowFlex BXT216 treadmill. I purchased the treadmill from an authorized retailer on February 15th and it arrived approximately two weeks after. After setting up the treadmill in accordance with the instructions, I was able to use the treadmill issue free twice. The third time using the machine, the motor housing made a couple quick grinding noises, then I heard a loud screeching sound followed by a popping sound. The treadmill is located in the basement and two floors above, my wife heard the loud screeching and popping noise. After the noise, the belt immediately sped up throwing me off the rear of the treadmill. Upon further investigation, with BowFlex customer service, the motor cover was pressing heavily against the belt, slowing the motion of the treadmill, once the motor cover broke (popping noise), the belt was free to move and immediately sped up to target speed throwing me off. BowFlex sent a technician out who replaced the motor cover.
