Seen by a doctor or nurse Made May 19, 2024, sent to the company May 31, 2024, published by CPSC Jun 14, 2024
The product, in the report: Speedo Anti-Fog Solution
I did not know how best to direct this. Cosmetic was the closest fit. If not FDA, please forward to appropriate govt agency. Liquid anti-fog solution is made for swim goggles. Sometime during 2023, Speedo reformulated their product, Anti-Fog Solution (that’s the name). Exxene AF-091 (Exxene is a corp), a non-eye irritant coating was discontinued and replaced with alcohol ethoxylate (AE), an eye-irritant. The labeling warns that the solution may cause eye skin irritation and that medical attention should be sought if symptoms occur. This writer experienced a mild case where blurred eyes cleared after about 2 hours. May 02, 2024, this writer experienced a severe case resulting in eye abrasion that required a visit to urgent care followed by a visit to an ophthalmologist. A prescription med and over-the-counter meds were prescribed. Two days of work were canceled due to poor vision and inability to drive. Toward the end of the 3rd day after, vision self-healed and was essentially normal. Re-evaluation of this product on the market is appropriate for a product having such a severe consequence. Send me an email and I will be delighted to send you a full incident report in pdf format. Your upload only allows photo files.

Emergency room Made Jul 29, 2022, sent to the company Aug 3, 2022, published by CPSC Aug 17, 2022
The product, in the report: Child Speedo swim goggles Sunny G Sea shells goggles for age 3-8 years old light green and pink strap
My 6 year old daughter was wearing Speedo swim goggles Sunny G brand (age group 3-8 year old type). She was swimming and her sister and her bumped heads underwater. The sharp hard plastic (sunglasses shape) with a sharp thin edge..made from polycarbonate made a deep incision approximately 1/2 from my daughters left eye. The opening in her skin required immediate medical attention and was irritated, closed with a Medical strength derma bond glue. She required steroids for her eye and oral antibiotics to prevent infection from the deep wound. I believe if she was wearing a standard pair of swim goggles this would not have happened. Due to the sharp thin hard plastic edges on these sunglass style swim goggles it caused this injury.

The product, in the report: Speedo Vanquisher 2.0 mirrored swim googles https://www.speedousa.com/vanquisher-20-mirrored-goggle-style-7750127
Purchased Speedo Vanquisher 2.0 mirrored googles for my granddaughter. She wore them for one swim practice and the inner lining of the googles cracked and the finish flaked off into her eyes. VERY dangerous.

Hurt, care not known Made Sep 25, 2012, sent to the company Oct 3, 2012, published by CPSC Oct 25, 2012
The product, in the report: Speedo Skoogles
I’ve recently bought the Speedo Skoogles (color lemon yellow) for my son to have swimming classes for the first time; he had no issues for the first 4 sessions. But from the 5th session, he started to cry and complain when we tried to put the goggles on him. He said that it was hurting his eyes. We thought it was related to anything IN his eyes (allergies, chemicals on water, etc). But we (my wife and I) also tried the goggles on our faces and we were surprised that after putting our face underwater, we started to feel like burning AROUND our eyes, just where the goggles fit. It seems to be something related to the product and there was nothing wrong related to my son’s eyes. The results: the swimming school didn’t accept him anymore, blaming he might have pink eye and he could pass to other kids - we paid 10 classes and were able to do only 4; what is worst- my son now refuses to put on any goggles and does not want to go to any swimming classes anymore.

Hurt, care not known Made Aug 8, 2012, sent to the company Aug 17, 2012, published by CPSC Sep 7, 2012
The product, in the report: We no longer have the packaging, but they are pink children’s swim goggles with blue plastic lenses. See attached photo. Brand speedo.
The Children’s Speedo swim goggles we just purchased burn the skin where they touch around the eyes.
My daughter complained that the goggles were burning her and refused to put them on.
I put them on and notice that within 30 seconds my skin felt like it was burned with acid. The burning sensation continued for an hour after I removed the goggles. My son tried and noticed the burning within 5 seconds.
