The product, in the report: 10 degree Smith MAchine

Matrix Fitness acquired Badger Fitness & earlier this year Matrix called me, asking what serial # did I have for the 10 degree Smith Machine. Upon providing them the serial #, Matrix sent 2 black spacer metal bars, instructing us to put them on the guide rods, at the bottom of each vertical guide rod. We did & while on vacation, week of June 9th or June 16th, 2014, a user doing a decline bench press experienced the lifting bar becoming unbalanced. When I returned, I put both machines out of order & brought the situation to the attention of Matrix. The Smith Machine has safety stops which latch onto safety pegs, located throughout the inner part of the frame on both sides. These safety stops are used by users to help the user restrict the range of motion, depending on the exercise they are doing. With the addition of the black spacer bars, the lowest safety pegs cannot be used & in this case when the user needed the lowest range of motion for a decline, the safety stops rested on top of the black spacer bar & the added weight hit one of the unlatched safety stops causing an unbalanced bar. I brought this to the attention of Matrix & was told to have the users use the safety stop, located above the black spacer bar. I asked them for instructions for this & was told that this would be outside the range of support. They would not provide safety instructions. I have 2 calls into supervisors, [REDACTED], spelled wrong. 800-818-6479, as of yet, not heard from either. I have voice mail and have sent email to editor of Athletic Business, [REDACTED]. Knowing that there is mechanical problem since Matrix added this black spacer bar, Club USA has theses 2 machines out of order & are waiting dialog with Matrix or information from this report.
