The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No one hurt

Made Jun 1, 2017, sent to the company Aug 16, 2017, published by CPSC Aug 30, 2017

The product, in the report: The items is a Pro Olympic Weight Bench. Model Number:PROOB-600, Style Number:STE00103. Color is white with some brackets being dark grey.

A weld in weight bench came undone. It appears it is a defect in manufacturing and because of where the weld is and used by consumers like myself to hold several hundred pounds above our heads.. a serious concern.

The item is a Dicks Fitness Gear Olympic Weight Bench. Model #: PROOB-600 Style #: STE00103

The item was purchased in 2014-2015 and only used lightly for a few months before storing it away. My oldest son brought it out from storage and was setting it up and noticed that a critical weld on one of the base had come clean off the mounting plate.

I had emailed Dick’s Sporting Good about the issue, including pictures, and they stated that because the item is over a year old that I need to contact the manufacturer. The Dick’s representative then spent a good amount of time tracking down who the manufacturer was as it was under a different name. He then stated that the manufacturer is in China and does not have US contact information.

Dicks is still selling this unit today but it is now called the ‘Fitness Gear 2017 Pro Olympic Weightbench’ . The Web ID is 16FGEUFGPRLYMPCBNWGHA, the Style is: STE00403, and the SKU is 17403063. The only different appears to be they changed some of the parts to blue instead of a dark grey.

Dicks feels that this is my problem and that I have to follow up with some manufacturer in China that has no presence in the USA. I appealed to them that this is a serious safety concern and that something should be done. Apparently Dicks no longer has the pictures I sent them, nor is interested in me resending to them. From their response it appears nothing will be done.
